or Robert Goss PAST Prior to the American Revolution, the part of the country now known as "Vermont" was claimed by New York and New Hampshire, and was known as "The New Hampshire Grants". New York divided the area into four counties: Bennington and Charlotte counties on the west, and Cumberland and Gloucester counties of the east side of the Green Mountains. (See era maps In 1791, Vermont joined the original 13 as a state in the union. On November 5, 1792, Caledonia County was incorporated from Orange County, including all that part of Vermont north of that county, and extending so far west as to include Montpelier and adjacent towns, however, the Caledonia County was not fully organized until November 8, 1796, when Danville was made the shire town. In 1811, the state of Vermont was divided into eleven counties and the counties of Orleans and Essex were incorporated from Caledonia County. In addition, in 1811, four towns from Caledonia County were incorporated into Washington County, to which Woodbury was also annexed, in 1836, and Cabot, in 1855. In 1856, the county seat was removed from Danville to St. Johnsbury where new county buildings were erected. The county was called "Caledonia" -the ancient Roman name of Scotland, out of regard for the emigrants from that country who had purchaes large tracts of land in the county, and had large and flourishing settlements in Barnet and Ryegate...

- ICC Tournament Structure
A new tournament structure has been approved in principle, and is now awaiting final ratification, which will incorporate all ICC Member countries in the World Cup.
The tournament structure would run on a four-yearly cycle, with the first round of qualification taking place in 2003, the same year as the next World Cup. Qualification Tournaments would be run in each of the five development regions, at both Affiliate and Associate level. The winner of the Affiliate level tournament would progress to the Associate Member tournament that would take place the following year. The winner of that event would qualify for the ICC Trophy. Three teams would qualify for the World Cup in 2007 to play alongside the 10 Full Member countries and Kenya, who have One-Day International status and therefore automatic entry into the World Cup. The number of qualifiers would be reviewed for future World Cup competitions. All matches within this system would take place using the same One Day International match format of 50 overs per side, with a maximum of 10 overs per bowler. In-between the ICC Trophy and the World Cup the 3 qualifiers would undergo an intense period of preparation under a ‘high-performance’ program designed to help them become competitive at the highest level.

Sports Thursday 13th June, 2002 Pini, you’re magic! PAPUA New Guinea swimming sensation Ryan Pini has created history by winning two bronze medals at the Oceania regional championships in Noumea, New Caledonia.
Pini becomes the first PNG swimmer and only the third South Pacific islander to win a medal at the regional tournament normally dominated by swimming giants Australia and New Zealand.
Since the inception of the Oceania regional championships in New Caledonia in 1993, only two New Caledonian’s have ever reached the medals podium.
Pini placed third in the 50m butterfly final in a time of 27.18 seconds, short of his PNG open record time of 26.82 set at the Australian Telstra Commonwealth Games selectional trials in March.
Pini was beaten by two Australian second-tier swimmers with the winner clocking 26.84 seconds and the second-placed timing 26.93.
Second-tier swimmers are the next group of swimmers that did not make the Australian Commonwealth Games swim team dominated by Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett.
In the 100m butterfly, Pini was second in the heats with a time of 56.23, behind Australian Tim Dodd 54.47 and ahead of Australian Daniel Blackbarrow 56.96.

I am also interested in the ethnohistory, prehistoric exchange, and social stratification of Oceanic peoples in general. I have since 1992 conducted research in the Solomon Islands focusing on the application of behavioral ecology to the study of human-marine environmental interactions. In addition, I have conducted research on the historical, cultural, political, and socio-economic context of indigenous common property regimes, and the impact of local and global economic transformations on these institutions.

Tonga hosts first regional gathering of church partners
May 31, 2001 News media contact: Linda Bloom New York By United Methodist News Service United Methodists met recently in Tonga with church partners from eight Pacific Island nations to discuss issues ranging from mission work to the effects of HIV/AIDS in the region. The consultation was the first of six regional gatherings planned by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries during the next three years. The purpose is to discuss critical issues related to mission and ministry and consider how best to work in partnership. Joining eight staff members and two directors from the mission agency were representatives from autonomous Methodist or United churches in Tonga, Fiji, Papua-New Guinea, New Caledonia, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti and Vanuatu. A pre-meeting orientation was set for women and youth "to give them voice and empower them to be full participants throughout the event," according to the Rev. Youngsook Kang, a board executive. Opening worship on May 20 in Tonga’s Free Wesleyan churches was followed by fellowship and a celebration of Father’s Day in local homes. The day ended with a choral night featuring individual and mass choirs from 11 churches in the district, presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Mele Siu’ilikutapu Fotofili.

    Our City!
    A Brief History
The origins of Prince George can be traced to the fur trading post of Fort George, established in 1807 by Simon Fraser. The post was centered in the centuries-old homeland of the Lheidli T'Enneh First Nation . Agricultural settlement around Fort George began about 1906 when it was realized that the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (later CN Rail) would pass near the fur post. The railway arrived in 1914 and construction of the railway townsite commenced. In 1915, the City of Prince George was incorporated. The City's name honours a former Duke of Kent, born in 1902 and killed in an air crash during the Second World War. Are you interested in finding out more about the history of Prince George? Development of the Aspac Region THE EMERGENCE OF THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION 1975-1980 David Mahony , from New Zealand, was elected to the International Team in 1977 and worked until 1980. He presented the following paper. NOTES ON THE HISTORICAL EVOLUTION OF THE WORK OF THE IYCW IN THE ASIA/PACIFIC REGION 1975-1980 The evolution over this period can be conveniently broken down into 3 periods viz. (i) Linz to December 1977 (ii) 1978 through to the end of the Regional Key Leaders Meeting (RKLM) in October 1978 (iii) RKLM 1978 through to the RKLM 1980 These periods coincide with key evaluations by the "Regional Team" on the evolution of the national movements and the questions arising. The term "Regional Team" is used rather than IYCW International Team in the region. It has a precise meaning and identity for Asia/Pacific during this period 1975 to 1980 as the integration of national leaders in the work of the region was a key perspective in the development of an Asia/Pacific YCW in the region. This aspect will be covered later. 1975 to 1980 is a significant period in the establishment of the foundation for a new Asia/Pacific identity and character from elements such as: Starting from the specific Asia/Pacific reality rather than a "global" program.

    ... New Caledonia
    History and Government
History: Discovered by Europeans in 1766, New Caledonia has been a French colony since 1853. It became a French Overseas Territory in 1946. From time to time, attempts have been made by the indigenous population to free themselves from French rule. The most serious of these was the Kanak Revolt of 1878, which was only subdued after a guerrilla campaign lasting for more than a year. In recent years, intermittent conflicts have flared up between the Melanesians and the French, reflecting the widely differing attitudes that exist towards the various plans for self-government. The majority of Kanaks (Melanesians) now support the Front de Liberation Nationale Kanak et Socialiste (National Kanak Socialist Liberation Front, FLNKS) created in 1984 and led, until his assassination in 1989, by the charismatic Jean-Marie Tjibaou. The Front is the largest party backing independence, which remains the overriding political issue in the territory.
