Executive Summary: Local Performing Arts Survey
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the Performing Arts Attendance Survey is: 1) to understand patterns of performing arts attendance; and 2) to identify effective strategies for increasing attendance of live performing arts events. Specifically, the results can be used by individual performing arts venues to enhance effective and efficient marketing efforts, with an emphasis on reaching those who are not already frequent attenders.
The research is based on interviews with "low attenders," defined as respondents who: 1) are not ticket holders for a local performing arts organization; and/or 2) attend 3 or less performing arts events annually. Based on these screening criteria, approximately 5 percent of respondents were excluded from the study. In other words, the results are highly representative of the general population, and only exclude 5 percent of residents who attend 4 or more live performing arts events annually.
The research is based on results from 5 regions of New Hampshire where there is at least 1 major performing arts venue. Because the research is not based on a fully representative sample of all New Hampshire residents, the collective results are referred to as a 5-market average rather than a statewide average. The purpose of gathering market-specific data is to provide information about awareness, image and attendance for each performing arts venue in each market.

Who We Are
Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH) is a non-profit organization providing sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with mental challenges. Currently 2,500 participants and thousands of volunteers, friends and family members take part in SONH activities.
Our Philosophy
SONH is founded on the belief that people with mental challenges can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports, adapted as necessary to meet the needs of those with mental and physical challenges. SONH believes that consistent training is indispensable to the development of sports skills and that competition among those with equal abilities is the most appropriate means of testing those skills, measuring progress and providing incentives for personal growth. Our History The Special Olympics concept was born in the early 1960's when Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a day camp for people with mental challenges. She observed the great joy campers experienced when playing sports and resolved to create a program that would both meet physical fitness needs and boost self-esteem.

Funding For New Training Facility at New Hampshire Fire Academy Boston, July 20, 1999 The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has committed $100,000 to assist in the construction of a state-of-the-art collapse rescue training facility on the campus of the New Hampshire Fire Academy. The announcement was made during presentation ceremony on Tuesday, July 20 at the New Hampshire Fire Academy in Concord, New Hampshire. "This facility will help to significantly improve the skills of emergency personnel in New Hampshire, protecting their lives and the lives of the people they are called on to rescue," said Woodbury P. Fogg, P.E., Director of the New Hampshire Office Emergency Management (NHOEM). " It will also serve as a national model for police and rescue personnel to train together, because a collapsed building can be a crime scene as well as a disaster," stated Fogg. The project is a collaboration among the New Hampshire Fire Academy, University of New Hampshire School of Civil Engineering, the State of New Hampshire Department of Public Safety, the NHOEM (which will administer the project) and support from the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation.

It's About Time
The title of this week's report has a double meaning. On one hand it's about time the fishing picked up! And it has. The bass especially have gotten much more active and aggressive this week. This comes as a relief to a lot of us who wondered when the fall run would start. The other meaning for the title has to do with what it takes for an angler to score some nice fish. Time is of the essence. The salty fly fisher needs time to get out and fish hard and thoroughly. An hour here and an hour there will not get the job done. Also, now is the time to get out because the season will be over before you know it. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. I got up to fish the other morning at my usual 3:00 a.m. hour and I didn't see light on the horizon until 5:00! The sun didn't rise until after 6:00. So time is short for us Northern New Englanders. Put your chores aside for a few more weeks and get out and fish!
