    Plant Science
    Introduction
Plant science is often categorized under the life sciences, and is closely related to agricultural topics. It can include the disciplines of agronomy, crop science, botany, entomology, horticulture, plant pathology and plant breeding, among others. These scientists study plants and their growth in soils, helping producers of food, feed and fiber crops continue to feed a growing population while conserving natural resources and maintaining the environment. Agronomists and crop scientists not only help increase productivity, but also study ways to improve the nutritional value of crops and the quality of seed. Some crop scientists study the breeding, physiology and management of crops and use genetic engineering to develop crops resistant to pests and drought. In addition, the study of plants often has direct applications to the study of human cells and ultimately the understanding of the human body and its functions. A bachelor's degree is sufficient for advanced technician jobs in the medical field, lab research assistant positions, or testing and inspection jobs. An advanced degree is required for most other positions in the scientific field. While most plant science graduates work in related occupations and eventually obtain advanced degrees, others choose different directions. Many careers do not require a specific major but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments. Regardless of your career choices, increase your marketability to employers through internships, responsible work experience, good grades, and involvement in college activities.

Visual Arts Search Search the Archives Back to Home Entertainment Thursday, Apr 10, 2003 Dining Posted on Fri, Jan. 31, 2003 Blue Goose flies the coop to Grapevine By Bud Kennedy Star-Telegram Staff Writer The Blue Goose Cantina is a Greenville Avenue landmark for Dallas margarita drinkers. So can a Blue Goose migrate from Greenville to Grapevine? Yes. Sort of. The new Goose has flown the coop from the rest. Instead of a Tex-Mex cantina, it's now a grilled- and fried-seafood restaurant, Blue Goose Fish Co. The operative Blue Goose margarita menu remains the same: seven styles, including strawberry, mango and prickly pear. Otherwise, the new Goose is a different bird. The highlights include oysters and grilled salmon, scallops and fresh fish, along with fried seafood and Cajun po-boys. If you just can't live without those Blue Goose chicken enchiladas, they're on a short menu of Tex-Mex dishes along with fajitas.
