MEMORIAL STAFF AWARD Annual Staff Award, Established in 1983 The annual $750 award was established in 1983 in memory of the sons of George W. Roberts, former New Mexico State University Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs, and his wife, Ellen Bernice Roberts. The award is made possible through the donations of the family and friends. The award is presented to a professional staff member once and to a classified employee twice every three years. A call for nominations (including the Roberts Award nomination form) is made each fall through the Personnel Office. The nominations are then reviewed by a subcommittee of the Advisory Council for Administrative Policy, and the award is presented following the February Advisory Council for Administrative Policy meeting. CRITERIA
There are two basic eligibility criteria. Recipients shall have:
  • Non-faculty status and not be members of either the Administrative or Academic Deans' Council.
  • Five or more consecutive years of service with the university.

It is early in the morning and Jacob and Patricia Magarire and their ten-month-old baby still have eight kilometers to go. They are heading for the business center in Basera to register for food distribution. Hundreds of people have gathered in Basera, a village in southern Zimbabwe's Gutu province. Here, long-time Church World Service partner, Christian Care (CC), is registering villagers, with a goal of reaching more than 83,000 people for general feeding and nearly 43,000 children under five for supplementary feeding in Gutu and Umguza provinces. In addition, it is providing drought-tolerant seeds to some 15,513 households to enable them to produce their own food next season. People are registered and vetted for the feeding programs according to their needs. "The level of poverty is the main criteria we use," says Courage Chirobe, a CC program officer. "Also, female or child-headed-households are considered first."
