Taste of Honey a Sweet Success
By D.D. Wolohan
The New Mexico Jewish Link “I was overwhelmed and impressed on how smoothly things ran and how interested everyone was in Jewish education,” said Julie Gordon about the enormously successful Taste of Honey event held on Feb. 2. Nearly 500 people participated in this JFGA-sponsored educational event held at the JCC held on Feb. 2. Presenters, as well as participants, came from all over New Mexico, representing the spectrum in Jewish thought. Topics ranged from the evolution of the Middle East conflict, to Jewish perspectives on abortion, cloning and stem cells, to the Jews of China and India, to what trope tells us about scripture and Jewish culture. Julie Gordon, Susan Zeman and Dr. Larry Cole were the core committee for this inaugural event, assisted by Jewish Federation of Greater Albuquerque (JFGA) executive director Andrew Lipman and Jerry Small. Evaluations provided the committee with highly constructive feedback, Zeman said. “It was a watershed event in the history of this community,” one evaluation read. “ Another commented, “I’ve been here 40 years and this was the best Jewish event ever!”

( Link here for RSA online at: http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSERS/RSA/rsa.html ). The RRCEPs provide performance-based continuing education services to rehabilitation organizations and personnel in the state Vocational Rehabilitation agencies. The RRCEPs provide programs designed to improve the job skills, provide new knowledge, and update the training of rehabilitation professionals through an integrated series of educational services that emphasize the skills necessary to a worker's effective performance. The RRCEPs conduct continuing education workshops, seminars, conferences, and training sessions; collect and disseminate up-to-date information and provide technical assistance and consultation to state VR agencies.

US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements, loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. We recommend visiting the sites for both your state of residence and for the states of the colleges to which you are applying. A B C D ...

Collaboration in Adult ESL and Family Literacy Education
by Amy Schlessman-Frost
University of Arizona

The current trend toward collaboration
This digest looks at collaboration for adult ESL programs and for family bilingual and ESL literacy programs. It discusses the distinctions among cooperation, coordination, and collaboration; presents a framework for collaboration; reports on uses of technology for collaboration; and explores ethical considerations, evaluation concerns, and policy issues. Distinct Nature of Collaboration
How is collaboration different from traditional service delivery for language minority adults, in which one agency provides the language instruction, another provides job placement, and another provides counseling services? Is there collaboration whenever two or more agencies share information for and about clients and refer the clients to other agencies for needed services?

The Virtual School List The Virtual School List includes only those entities which offer courses designed for K-12 learners and which offer at least some Internet- or Web-based credit courses . Using email, chat or support web sites (like many conventional college courses these days) isn't considered to constitute a "web-based course" in the context of this Virtual School List. Computer-based courses using CD-ROMs or software loaded on the student's computer for the main course delivery, another common method, is also not considered a "web-based course" application in this context. To suggest a new listing, go to the Virtual School Survey page. State-operated University-operated District-operated State charter schools ... Governments play numerous roles in nuclear energy and radioactive waste management. On one hand, they may be active promoters of nuclear energy in many countries. On the other hand, they are also the regulators of things nuclear. This dual role often leads to complex relationships and overlaps between various government departments or ministries. The situation can become even more complicated when several government agencies claim jurisdiction over different (or sometimes the same) aspects. To complete the picture, you often have to add in different levels of government (e.g. local, regional, state, and national). An important point to remember is that the regulatory framework and laws are different in each country. International

Title IX Resources - Comprehensive Regional Assistance Centers The fifteen Comprehensive Centers (CCs) are part of an emerging network of organizations providing assistance and information nationwide. Their role in this network is to help states, school districts, and schools in "meeting the needs of children served under ESEA, including children in high-poverty areas, migratory children, immigrant children, children with limited-English proficiency, neglected or delinquent children, homeless children and youth, Indian children, children with disabilities, and, where applicable, Alaska Native children and Native Hawaiian children" (Title XIII of ESEA). The CCs will focus on two priorities, as required by ESEA: assisting Title I schoolwide programs and helping local education agencies and schools funded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs that have the highest percentages or numbers of children in poverty.
