OTHER NEWS NAFE Announces Top 30 Companies For Executive Women
Financial and Manufacturing Companies Lead the Pack, Offering Women Best Opportunities for Success
NEW YORK, NEW YORK (January 28, 2003) It's getting easier for women to find companies where they can succeed, according to the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE), which today announced the "Top 30 Companies for Executive Women."
For the fifth consecutive year, Avon Products excels as the best company for women, with the highest numbers of women board members, corporate officers, top earners and in the C-suite.
The top 10 companies for women also include Scholastic, Liz Claiborne, Wellpoint, Fannie Mae, Golden West, Prudential, New York Times, Hewlett-Packard and IBM.
"This year, we find a great diversity in the types of companies offering women the best shot," said NAFE President Dr. Betty Spence, with 10 of the "Top 30" companies in the financial industry and nine in manufacturing/retail.
"From technology to pharmaceuticals to publishing, the 'Top 30' are tapping women for senior positions and have the best practices to get them there. The companies actively work to retain their women by offering opportunities to grow and advance and a work culture where they can prosper and have a life," said Dr. Spence.
However, women continue to get short shrift in the area of pay equity, despite their increasing numbers in senior jobs, according to NAFE. The SEC, which requires public companies to report their five top earners, shows only 16 of NAFE's "Top 30" companies with at least one woman in the top paid. Scholastic is the sole company where women best men as top earners.

Part III: Chapter 19: Audit Requirements Highlights of Chapter: This chapter establishes responsibilities for the audit of organizations receiving agency funds. The intent of this chapter is to identify the policies for determining the proper and effective use of public funds rather than to prescribe detailed procedures for the conduct of an audit. Audit Objectives Awards are subject to conditions of fiscal, program, and general administration to which the recipient expressly agrees. Accordingly, the audit objective is to review the recipient's administration of funds and required non-Federal contributions for the purpose of determining whether the recipient has:
  • Established an accounting system integrated with adequate internal fiscal and management controls to provide full accountability for revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities. This system should provide reasonable assurance that the organization is managing Federal financial assistance programs in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepared financial statements which are presented fairly, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

    Financial Mathematics Programs: An Introduction
Perhaps the most developed area of new M.S. programs is Financial Mathematics, both because of the putative demand for such specialists by brokerage houses and because the American Mathematics Society in conjunction with the Society for Applied Mathematics (SIAM) has been supporting such efforts with among other things published a set of Guidelines for a Professional Masters Degree (Nov. 1998). In October 1998 at Univ. of Illinois-Chicago and one month later at NYU, the American Mathematical Society (AMS), in conjunction with the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) offered workshops in which several existing master's programs in financial mathematics were featured (see below). The participants in the meeting also included representatives from employers. Programs in Financial Mathematics are generally new and enjoy cooperation with faculty from business. All financial Mathematics programs seem to have no trouble placing graduates. Note that programs in financial mathematics tend to be one year in duration and that students in general pay their own way.

Administration and Human Resource management, financial management, Strategic management,Marketing and a conference center in the new york tristate
    http://www.gsb.columbia.edu/execed/INM/about.html
    About INM
Mission Driven The Institute for Not-for-Profit Management (INM) was founded in 1975 to significantly increase the managerial capacity of not-for-profit organizations. INM provides a unique service to the community. Most managers of not-for-profit organizations have developed the technical expertise required for their fields of service, but have had no formal management education. In matters of business, they are largely self-taught. The need for advanced management tools has always been great, but is especially critical in the current economic environment. Most graduate-level management programs are full degree programs, demanding larger financial and time commitments than executives can afford to make. Doing Good Well The Power of Peer Learning The programs attract mid-level and senior managers from not-for-profit and public agencies. Through a variety of team-based projects and facilitated discussions, participants become a rich resource to each other, sharing experience and insight as they apply new theories and tools. Peer learning continues long after graduation at alumni workshops and other special events. INM Faculty Our faculty are a diverse group of academics and practitioners, all of whom have extensive experience working with not-for-profit organizations. Approximately ten instructors are assigned to each program, teaching subjects in which they have demonstrated considerable expertise. Our faculty draw on the wealth of experience participants bring to the classroom to reinforce participant learning and build strong networks among peers. They work closely with participants to develop actionable strategic plans products of immediate value to their respective agencies. In this way, INM has instant, positive impact on the agencies it serves.
