According to a report from Reuters, for the week ending July 14 Columbia's Web site drew 191,000 visitors from their homes (off-campus), a 54 percent increase over the previous week, putting Columbia in the top five Universities with dramatic increases in off-campus traffic for this period. Part of this increase may be attributed to incoming students searching Columbia's site for information they need before they arrive on campus. And there is a wealth of information available online to assist incoming students everything from academic advising to sheet sizes for dorm room beds. The New York City Office of the Cornell Cooperative Extension System was established in 1948 with federal dollars to provide food marketing information to urban consumers and others concerned with the food system in the metropolitan area.
Cornell Unversity Cooperative Extension New York City:
Creating learning partnerships that strengthen individual, family, and community well-being.
Current areas of program emphasis include: Community and Economic Development Environmental Revitalization and Management Nutrition and Health Workforce Development Programs are targeted primarily at youth and adults with limited resources: limited either by economics, education or social status, or to those with limited access to information and services. A periodic assessment of neighborhood and community needs help to insure that educational programs are based on local concerns. The New York City Program is funded in large part by the Office of the Director of Cooperative Extension, who receives annual funds from Federal and State appropriations to carry out Extension work in the State of New York. Grants and contracts provide additional funding.
