Canon first established its New Zealand operation in the early sixties when Photographic Wholesalers, a subsidiary of Kerridge Odean begun marketing Canon camera products. Unequalled features and quality saw rapid acceptance of Canon's camera products, it was these strengths that allowed Kerridge Odean to grow and include Canon calculators and micrographic products in its line up.
With the worldwide launch of Canon typewriters in early 1983 Kerridge Odean formed Canon Typing Systems This was followed closely by Canon Data Products, specialising in Canon computers and software. In tandem in the New Zealand market DRG Canon held the distribution rights for copier and facsimile products.
In early 1987 Pacer Corporation took control of Kerridge Odean forming the new Pacer Kerridge Corporation. This heralded a change for Canon product distribution, as in August 1987 DRG Canon begun marketing all Canon products with the exception of photographic equipment.
Fuelled by rapid growth, both organisational and in a diverse product line up, the evolution of Canon New Zealand continued. In late 1991, Canon Inc. Japan took control via Canon Australia to form Canon New Zealand Limited bringing all Canon products and services together under the huge global network the forms Canon Worldwide.

History and Government
History: New Zealand was first settled at least 1000 years ago, by the Polynesian Maori, a well ordered tribal society led by hereditary chiefs and a powerful priesthood. The first European arrival was Dutchman Abel Tasman in 1642, although it was not until the voyages of Captain James Cook, in 1769 and 1779, that the islands were charted and explored.
British settlers began to emigrate after British sovereignty was established in 1840; Wellington was founded soon afterwards. New Zealand was granted internal self-government in 1852. The later years of the century saw a rapid growth in investment, communications and agricultural production. In 1893, New Zealand became the first country in the world to extend the vote to women. In 1907, New Zealand became a Dominion and its forces took part in both World Wars.
Rainbow Warrior affair, in which French military personnel bombed the Greenpeace vessel of the same name, killing one person. The tests ended in 1995 and New Zealand resumed diplomatic relations with France in 1997.

History Background information on Festival Mushroom Records
Festival Mushroom Records was formed from the amalgamation of the operations of Festival Records Pty Ltd, Mushroom Records Pty Ltd and Mushroom Distribution Services (MDS).
Festival Mushroom Records is a fully owned subsidiary of News Ltd.
Festival Records has been operating in Australia and New Zealand since 1952 and has been part of News since 1961. Festival was the original home for rock and roll in Australia. Not only did it introduce the nation to Bill Haley and "Rock Around The Clock", it also discovered and recorded pioneer Australian artists such as Johnny O'Keefe, The Delltones, Olivia Newton John, Peter Allen, Rolf Harris, The BeeGees and Col Joye and the Joyboys.
In 1997 a new management team was brought in to Festival by senior News executive James Murdoch and the focus once more moved back to developing and recording Australian artists for the world market. At the same time a whole new breed of modern international labels gravitated to Festival such as Gut, Almo, Fantasy and Rykodisc/Palm Pictures as well as the Walt Disney Company's catalogue of recordings, including the Hollywood Records and Mammoth imprints.
The Festival Mushroom group of companies encompasses the production, manufacture and distribution of recorded music. It has offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland, Los Angeles and London. Head office is in Sydney.

http://www.toastmasters.org.nz/index.cfm/About_Us/History.html
About Us History Mission Executive ... Joy for ID The History of Toastmasters in New Zealand
Background
Since Toastmasters began, more then three million men and women worldwide have benefited from the organisation’s communication and leadership programmes. In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, USA, forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.” Soon men in other communities and states asked for permission and help to start their own Toastmasters clubs. By 1930, a federation was necessary to coordinate activities of the many clubs and to provide a standard programme. When a speaking club in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, expressed interest in forming a Toastmasters club, the group became known as Toastmasters International. Humble Beginnings
In September 1961 a small group of Dunedin men attended the first open meeting which culminated in the establishment of the Dunedin Toastmasters Club. One of those present, Rob Hendry, is still an active Toastmaster today.

TIBET
The Roof of the World
Photograph courtesy of Galan Rowell Until 1950, Tibet was a Sovereign State of three provinces of U Tsang Amdo and Kham , inhabited by six million people with a distinct language, culture and history dating back thousands of years. In 1950 Tibet was invaded by the army of her neighbour, The People's Republic of China.
Look at what has happened to TIBET since:
1.2 million Tibetans died as a direct result of Chinese occupation of Tibet. Over Six Thousand Monasteries, Temples and Historical Structures looted and destroyed. Tibet's ecosystem has been severely damaged: vast tracts of forest have been denuded, wildlife species decimated. Tibet's substantial mineral resources have been plundered. One quarter of China's nuclear missiles are stationed in Tibet. China is using Tibet as a dumping ground for nuclear waste . Some three hundred thousand Chinese troops are based in Tibet. 7.5 million Chinese colonialists have been shifted into Tibet in a move to dominate the Tibetans. A secret Chinese document in 1992 revealed plans to swamp the Tibetan population with even more Chinese.

The First Generation:
It all started with the people of Vanuatu in the Pacific who have been throwing themselves from huge towers for centuries with nothing more than a few vines tied to their feet.
Find out more about the Vanuatu Ritual
The Second Generation:
This ancient ritual inspired the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club to try a few experimental jumps back in the 70's. AJ Hackett saw a video and his imagination took over, teaming up with a fellow speed skier Henry Van Asch they developed bungy into the modern ritual it is today. The Third Generation:
After some extensive testing on latex rubber cords a series of extreme jumps were made, first in Tignes, France from a ski area gondola 91 metres above the snow.

New Zealand - "Land of the Long White Cloud ("Aotearoa" in Maori).
New Zealand, approximately 4 hours flight south-east of Australia, is a land of clean, green pastures, scenic landscapes. (scenes can be viewed in the "Gallery Artists" pages) The indigenous people, the Maori, have a culture that has been carried through the years from the time of their arrival in the middle of the 10th century. Carvings depicting much of the culture can be seen in the "Maori Carvings" and "Jade Carving"pages. The New Zealand environment is at present at the forefront of the government's agenda and much of the native forest is being protected by legislation. The Kauri tree which is the most famous of the New Zealand timbers cannot be felled today. Kauri Bowls and other wood products of Swamp Kauri are from a forest buried in the northern part of New Zealand for over 3,000 years.
