The Realm of Lastaria A Game World Based on Celtic and Norse Mythology
Welcome to the Realm of Lastaria Lastaria is a Fantasy Game World that I created originally as a Ravonloft Realm and ran for one of my players (Leon Kirk). It soon however evolved and I decided to take it out of Ravenloft and develop as an Independent world.
I have always had an interest in Celtic and Norse Mythology and therefore decided to use this as a basis for my world taking the Gods and many of the ideas from these mythologies but adding my own twists plus many of my own ideas.
I have been developing these ideas for many years and have even ran Lastaria as a PBM (Play By Mail)
I also run it as a game amongst friends using the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons System although I hope soon to have developed my own system.
I hope you enjoy my world, If you have any questions or ideas feel free to EMail me using the link below.
The Lastaria Web sight will be constantly updated so please come back as there will very likely be something new to look at. THE REALM OF LASTARIA WEBSITE WAS LAST UPDATED ON THE 27th MAY 2001 Witch Class Added.

22. Hræthgarm
A heroic epic written in iambic pentameter which incorporates elements of norse mythology.
http://www.geocities.com/mattwyz/Hrathgarm.html
Hræthgarm Hræthgarm is an epic poem set in the world envisioned by the Scandinavian peoples of the latter half of the first millenium A.D. It incorporates elements of Norse mythology. If you are unfamiliar with the mythology of the old Norse people, here is a link to a sight with a fairly comprehensive index: Encyclopedia Mythica The entries don't go into much depth, but it's a good start. Also, check out what the author has to say about his work - see Author's Notes If you've already read Hræthgarm and would like to comment on it, you can do so in my guestbook: Sign Guestbook Anyway, if you want to get to the poem itself, click on any of the links below:

Most information about Scandinavian mythology is preserved in the Old Norse literature (Icelandic, Swedish, and Norwegian Literature), in the Eddas and later sagas; other material appears in commentaries by the Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus and the German writer Adam of Bremen (flourished about 1075). Fragments of legends are sometimes preserved in old inscriptions and in later folklore. Gods and Heroes Besides Odin, the major deities of Scandinavian mythology were his wife, Frigg, goddess of the home; Thor, god of thunder, who protected humans and the other gods from the giants and who was especially popular among the Scandinavian peasantry; Frey, a god of prosperity; and Freya, sister of Frey, a fertility goddess. Other, lesser gods were Balder, Hermod, Tyr, Bragi, and Forseti; Idun, Nanna, and Sif were among the goddesses. The principle of evil among the gods was represented by the trickster Loki. Many of these deities do not seem to have had special functions; they merely appear as characters in legendary tales.

CLANS OF RAGNAROK: NORSE-BASED FANTASY LIVE ACTION ROLE PLAYING What's New: WHAT IS COR?
Clans of Ragnarok (or "COR") is a new Live Action Role Playing game. It's a boffer-weapon game, which means we use foam weapons and bean-bags to simulate melee, thrown, arrow, and magic attacks. The genre of the game finds its basis in Norse mythology (Odin, Thor, Freya...etc.), but moreover, it's set during Norse Armageddon, or "Ragnarok." The whole fantasy world is quite interesting, full of role-playing opportunities, and lends itself to a high-drama game (with knights and wyrms, giant wolves and fallen gods, princesses and thieves...). The game system was created in such a way to allow characters and plots to have a lot of depth; characters are skill (instead of class based), characters are constantly progressing (you don't run out of skill options just because you're high level), and there are so many skill - race - Attunement combinations that you will be unique, even in a large game. norse mythology, preChristian religious beliefs of the Norse people. norse mythologyincluded dwarves; elves; and the Norns, who distributed fates to mortals.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/8991/scanda.html
Most information about Norse mythology is preserved in the Old Norse literature, in the Eddas and later sagas; other material appears in commentaries by the Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus and the German writer Adam of Bremen (fl. about 1075). Fragments of legends are sometimes preserved in old inscriptions and in later folklore.Gods and Heroes. Besides Odin, the major deities of Norse mythology were his wife, Frigg, goddess of the home; Thor, god of thunder, who protected humans and the other gods from the giants and who was especially popular among the Norse peasantry; Frey, a god of prosperity; and Freya, sister of Frey, a fertility goddess.
Many ancient mythological heroes, some of whom may have been derived from real persons, were believed to be descendants of the gods; among them were Sigurd the Dragon-slayer; Helgi Thrice-Born, Harald Wartooth, Hadding, Starkad, and the Valkyries. The Valkyries, a band of warrior-maidens that included Svava and Brunhild, served Odin as choosers of slain warriors, who were taken to reside in Valhalla. There the warriors would spend their days fighting and nights feasting until Ragnarok, the day of the final world battle, in which the old gods would perish and a new reign of peace and love would be instituted. Ordinary individuals were received after death by the goddess Hel in a cheerless underground world.

Diana Meade's Page of Norse Mythology
In L.J. Smith's series "The Forbidden Game," Norse Mythology sprung up, primarily in the form of the nine worlds of Norse and Germanic legend. This page is devoted to the Norse legends on a broader spectrum as well as some extra information on the nine worlds. The Nine Worlds ~* First Level Worlds*~ Alfheim Alfheim means "elf home," which is what it is in Norse Mythology. It is located on the highest level of the universe as perceived by the Norse peoples. The god Freyr has his palace here among the elves of light. Asgard Asgard is another of the worlds located on the highest level of the Norse universe. It is the home of the higher and warrior gods known as the Aesir. It is surrounded by a stone wall to protect the gods from their giant enemies. Also on Asgard is Valhalla, a great hall where brave and strong warriors who died in battle await the final battle at the end of the world. Vanaheim Vanaheim is the last world on the top level of the universe. It is the homeland of the Vanir, or lesser gods. ~*Second Level Worlds*~ Jotunheim Jotunheim is the world of primal storms and is a cold, snowy region. It is situated on the secong and middle level of the universe. Jotunheim is home to the frost and rock giants. This world is ruled by Thrym, a frost giant. The well of wisdom (guarded by Mimir) is here.

Norse Mythology
In the beginning there was cold and heat
The way to the North - Norway - has always been regarded as a route that is hard to find, difficult to tread and fraught with unspeakable dangers. To the writers of ancient Greece and Rome Norway was a mythical world - Ultima Thule, peopled by wild barbarians and full of strange and fantastic creatures. In the 4th century BC, the Greek Pytheas described a place where the laws of nature seemed to be suspended, where earth and water and air came together and everything seemed to float about freely. The renowned historian Herodot complained that it was actually quite impossible to say anything at all about the northern regions, because one simply couldn't see a foot in front of one. This was because of all the white feathers that constantly blow in people's faces - the air is thick with such feathers, he wrote, and the ground completely covered by them! We should probably interpret this observation as the somewhat unsuccessful attempt of a southerner to describe a snowstorm. However, it's true enough; Norway has always had more than its share of snow and ice. A major portion of our country lies north of the Arctic Circle. And even though the glaciers have long since receded from these parts, the Ice Age lasted longer in Norway than in most other places. Paganism too lasted longer here in the north. When the rest of Europe had been christianized for almost a thousand years, Norwegians were still worshipping their old pagan gods.

Norse Mythology I have collected some of the myths of Norse Mythology here. Remember that these are myths. I am not myself a believer of these myths as a religion, but I love the stories and have always done. Even today some societies of heathendom use Norse mythology as their religion..... I know there is a lot of text to read, but it's very intriguing and if you believe the world is violent now, then you will think again after reading these tales.... Two collections of Old Norse writings are known by the title of Edda; together they form the most authoritative source for ancient Norse mythology. The Elder, or Poetic, Edda is a collection of 34 Icelandic poems, interspersed with prose dating from the 9th to the 12th century. These anonymous poems use alliteration and a simple strophic form as their only formal devices. Most of them deal with Norse mythology and legend. The Younger, or Prose, Edda (c. 1220) is as said above the work of the Icelandic poet and historian SNORRI STURLUSON (c.1179-1241). The Creation of the World Gods About Gods and Beings The Norns ...
