Family Stories As told by the grandmother that raised him, Martin Gilliam says that the immigrant Parker and a group of men set sail from Portsmouth, England to somewhere on the East Coast. After saving enough money, he sent for his wife and son. The son died during the ocean voyage, and was buried at sea wraped in a feather-bed. I have heard mention that our Parker family was from Pennsylvania before coming to Bedford County, VA. There is also a reference in a 1920 census record that says that the parents were from Pennsylvania when the were actually from Virginia. This may indicate that our Parker family was originally from Pennsylvania. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Introduction
Welcome! The purpose of this collection of pages is to document the research I am doing concerning the lives of my ancestors and their descendants. Like the vast majority of Web pages, this collection is a work in progress. If you would like to add to this collection of material, or to correct any mistakes that I have made, I strongly encourage you to contact me via e-mail at drewsmith@aol.com
My Current Personal Genealogical Database
Family Lines I am Researching
I am primarily researching the following family lines (in the following geographic areas and time periods):
  • South Carolina (back to North Carolina and Virginia, eventually back to England)
MARTIN (upstate SC, especially the Edgefield area - I am interested in all ancestors and descendants of James S. and Elizabeth MARTIN) BODIE/BODDIE (upstate SC - however, I am interested in all individuals with this surname) EIDSON (upstate SC - if you're researching this line, make sure you get a copy of Wanda Eidson's book first) PITTS (upstate SC, especially the Edgefield and Newberry areas)

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2064/squaker.htm
Quaker Ancestry, Southern States Although most of us associate Quakers with Pennsylvania and the northern states there was a sizable southern Quaker migration to North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia which began in the mid-1700's. The story of Joseph Maddock's moves to North Carolina and his part in the foundation of the Quaker colony at Wrightsboro is told by Maddock descendant Ralph Hayes in Quaker Migrations. For the benefit of those whose ancestors were part of the short-lived Quaker community at Wrightsboro, near present day Thomson, Georgia, I have set up a Wrightsborough page . The idea is to have a unified source, similar to the county pages at Rootsweb, for descendants of people who were associated with the Monthly Meeting there. A number of other people have independently been doing the same thing for other Quaker Monthly Meetings. Those in the South you will find on this page. I have tried to collect those in other parts of the US on the following page: Quaker Resources for other States . If your ancestors are associated with a particular monthly meeting I urge you to consider setting up a web page for that meeting. There are a number of places where you can get a free web page, and I will be glad to help coach you through learning how to set it up just write me at sshaw@terminal.cz
