Halifax is where the maiden voyage of Titanic really ended, with the most lasting legacy from the sinking located here.
T he world was stunned in 1912 by the loss of the liner Titanic on her maiden voyage. Halifax, Nova Scotia , located on the eastern coast of Canada, has one of the most moving and intimate connections with the Titanic disaster, playing a key role during the tragedy's aftermath and becoming the final resting place of many of her unclaimed victims. T hree Halifax ships were involved in the grim task of recovering victims - many of whom were laid to rest in three of our city's cemeteries. Rows of black granite headstones, each inscribed with the same date, April 15, 1912, are a stark reminder of the disaster.
Titanic
artifacts at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic are a touching reminder of the ship's lost luxury, her violent end and the special role our port played as the enormity of the disaster unfolded. These artifacts were all pulled from the water within weeks of the sinking by ships from Halifax searching for Titanic victims. The exhibit features wooden artifacts collected at the scene of the disaster, including one of the only

Improved health needs political commitment
Either something is important and you are committed to it or you are not. What could be more important than improving the disgracefully poor health of our Nova Scotia population - surely not a 10% tax cut? This year the Conservative government chose to put $49 million of $50 million from annual tobacco tax increases toward general revenue (to fund the coming 10% tax cut), instead of using it directly to save the lives of more Nova Scotians, and improve our approaching crisis in population health. This government has made a clear choice - tax cuts over your health. Full Story

HAMM ADMITS HE HAS NO DEBT MANAGEMENT PLAN
(Bridgewater, NS) Liberal Finance Critic Don Downe is surprised the premier has finally admitted his Conservative government has no plan to pay down the province’s rising debt and is deeply concerned about the effect that will have on the province’s finances. Premier Hamm has said he won't begin thinking about a debt management plan to repay the province's debt until his government posts a substantial surplus around $15 million.

The Response

EDS provides the mainframe for round-the-clock processing application systems using the latest disk storage technology. Ancillary services include technical support for software, performance tuning, and acting as client liaison for problems and change management. The data centre provides printing services using high-speed, continuous-form laser technology. The data centre handles 350,000 interactive transactions a day in addition to 40,000 batch-processing jobs a month. The Result
The government of Nova Scotia wanted to be on the cutting edge of computing technology, and it had to get there without taxpayer funding. No government grants, loans or credits were available. EDS helped the government cut costs as well as provide better services to taxpayers. The Technology
The mainframe system is based on an integrated set of software products in a JES3 environment, using CICS and COMPLETE as transaction monitors and ADABAS for database management. The midrange system runs on UNIX RS/6000 and NT software. The unique software application uses terminal servers that are thin clients, so one software change applies to all users. A primary domain controller houses the applications and is driven by an Oracle database housed on the mainframe.

NOVA SCOTIA FOR NOVA SCOTIANS ... TAKE BACK CONTROL OF YOUR GOVERNMENT ... AWAY FROM POLITICAL PARTIES... AND THE RICH AND POWERFUL WHO CONTROL THEM
THE FINAL STRAW Design by Gene Chase
“ in Nova Scotia, it exists that there is an unequal division in the population … those people who have power - and the will to exercise it … and those people who are like cattle allowing themselves to be herded in any direction, including poverty, while the powerful pick their pockets .” On April 4, 2002, the Progressive-Conservative Government of John Hamm announced their “balanced “ budget to Nova Scotians. Hamm’s Minister of Finance, Neil LeBlanc had leaked information a few weeks previous to the announcement that it would be a “tough” budget and that the people of Nova Scotia were going to have to “bite the bullet “ and expect less from government because Nova Scotia was heavily in debt to the tune of 11,000,000,000 (billion) dollars. It’s funny that the first part of that word billion , “ bil” is also the first part of the word “ biliousness”.
