The Wild Dolphin Project
The Wild Dolphin Project (WDP), founded by Dr. Denise Herzing in 1985, is engaged in an ambitious, long-term scientific study of a specific pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins that live 40 miles off the coast of the Bahamas, in the Atlantic Ocean. For about 100 days each year, Phase I research has involved the photographing, videotaping, and audiotaping of a group of resident dolphins, aiming to learn about their lives. More 9 Degrees North 9 Degrees N chronicles an oceanographic research expedition to hydrothermal vent sites along the East Pacific Rise aboard the R/V Atlantis with the DSV Alvin. Scientists, students, education specialists, and film crews return to 9° North to see how the biology and landscape has changed over time. These explorers hope to solve some mystery about the interactions of the organisms within these communities. More

Oceanography Indexes
These research tools are used to provide access to "primary" research literature in oceanography. This literature includes journal papers, journals, conference papers, monographic series, and publications issued in other specialized formats as described in The Literature of Oceanography . Publications indexed may be retrieved in a variety of waysby author, subject, taxonomy, life stage, geography, time, chemical compound, or habitatdepending upon the index. In the HSU Library recent years of most indexes are available in electronic format on the web with older years in print format for retrospective searching. Electronic indexes are available in the Library and also remotely to both campus and home users from the Databases section of the HSU Library's web server. Before starting a literature search through one or more oceanography indexes, a search strategy should be developed which defines and logically organizes a search into its unique concepts. The Search Strategy Worksheet presents a four-step outline for developing such a subject search strategy. The following oceanography indexes are available through the HSU Library to current students and faculty. Click on the title to search the index or on the

PERGAMON Description Oceanographic Literature Review comprises an annotated bibliography to the international research literature in all fields of oceanography including science, mathematics and methods as well as policy, laws, economics and resource management. It contains some 8000 citations per annum, most accompanied by an abstract. References are gathered from approximately 2,500 journals and other serial publications. Many of these journals are covered by no other oceanographic database. OLR is unique in citing non-oceanographic material in the basic sciences thought to be useful to oceanographers. Regular Contents Include: Physical oceanography Marine meteorology Chemical oceanography Marine geology and geophysics Biological oceanography Environmental oceanography and pollution Applied oceanography and engineering Regional studies General Each issue contains an abbreviated subject index, a regional and organism index. An annual index will also be produced as a separate volume incorporating a full subject index, a regional index, organism index, author index and a journal listing of all journals sourced. Oceanographic Literature Review is available online from GEOBASE through DIALOG, OCLC and also on CD-ROM on SilverPlatter and as Marine Literature Review CD-ROM

The growing interest in coastal ocean processes during the last decade has accentuated the need for laboratory facilities where various aspects of the coastal ocean environment can be simulated under controlled conditions. The 17-meter flume, a re-circulating, temperature-controlled, seawater channel constructed in the Coastal Research Laboratory at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, was specifically designed for studies of biogeochemical and fluid-dynamical questions which can be adequately addressed in a steady-flow environment. Part I of a two-part report, this technical report provides comprehensive descriptions of the flume and associated instrumentation, examples of flume settings to achieve selected flow regimes, and detailed instructions for the use of this facility. The 17-meter Flume at the Coastal Research Laboratory. Part II: Flow Characteristics
