Real Time Sessions: Monday Evenings (April 28, May 5, 12, and 19) from 9:30pm - 11:00pm ET (USA) COURSE DESCRIPTION: The receptionist/front office staff plays the most critical role in the success or failure of a veterinary practice. It really does not matter how excellent the patient care is from the veterinarians or staff, the practice can be made or broken depending on the professionalism of the front office staff. A client will always remember his/her first few minutes at the clinic along with the last few. A receptionist's position includes creating a bond with the client and providing exceptional customer service. There is a required text for this course, see information below. This course is designed for all receptionists, front office staff and also those assistants and technicians who fill in at the front desk. All veterinary staff involved in or wishing to learn more about the importance of providing exceptional customer care or training of future front office personnel are encouraged to register. This course covers the essential skills needed for the first several weeks on your job.

W.O.S.P. is a project that has been brought about through the determination of a group of people once attending the Whinfell Centre at Longpool in Kendal. This group were dissatisfied with being labelled and decided that they would like to rid themselves of the stigma attached to them and at the same time offer a valuable service to their community.
Our philosophy at W.O.S.P. is that each person should be treated with equal respect and given equal opportunities to learn and experience work if that is what they wish.

OFFICE SKILLS Based in the main administration department of the college, office students are involved in the routine procedures of a working office. Streaming Video of College Office Initially undertaking the National Proficiency Tests Council Vocational Foundation Certificate in Office Skills and Reception and Use of Computer, students are then able to progress to NVQ Administration Level 1, where they are encouraged to develop responsibility, including ownership of their own learning, and working within both group and individual tuition sessions. Students undertake practical work experience in all day-to-day aspects of office life, including mail handling, data processing and reprographics. Communication skills are developed through team working including switchboard and reception duties, where office students have the responsibility of being the first point of contact with callers and visitors to the college. Support is provided relative to students' needs, including adaptation or provision of specialised equipment or software, to enable independent access to learning opportunities in all areas of their course. Emphasis is placed upon developing personal skills in Information Technology, including word processing, desktop publishing and e-mailing.
