http://www.ccis-ohio.org/about.htm
Cleveland Council of Independent Schools CCIS was founded in 1967 to promote cooperation among four independent schools of northeastern Ohio in areas in which collaborative efforts might create greater benefits for all. Today CCIS consists of 13 schools, each one unique in its own flavor of education but each also committed to the promotion of the ideal of independent education as a valuable and viable choice for learning today. In reflecting the diversity in our childrens' learning styles and recognizing the need to offer a range of independent school experiences, we are co-ed day schools, an all male day school, all female day schools, boarding schools, a therapeutic boarding school and some schools that deal with children with learning differences. Scholarship programs, Drivers Education classes, College Fair, Financial Aid and Scholarship programs for college-bound students are but a few of the programs offered through the CCIS network. Agnon School, Andrews School, Grand River Academy, Hathaway Brown School, Hawken School, Lake Ridge Academy, Laurel School, Lawrence School, Old Trail School, Phillips Osborne School, the Ratner Schools, University School and Western Reserve Academy are the institutions that comprise CCIS, schools eager to maintain their uniqueness yet committed to strive toward the CCIS mission.

    29. History - Sisters Of Notre Dame De Namur
of Notre Dame de Namur came to Cincinnati, ohio from Namur they opened their firstschool with three divisions boarding, day and free (poor) schools.
    http://www.sndohio.org/history/history.htm
HISTORY OF THE OHIO PROVINCE Eight pioneer Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur came to Cincinnati, Ohio from Namur, Belgium in 1840 at the invitation of Bishop John Purcell. Eager to bring the service of education to the "untutored Indians," they were somewhat disappointed to find Cincinnati quite civilized. Upon their arrival on October 31, 1840, Bishop Purcell offered them a beautiful and extensive property some miles from the city. They refused politely, stating that they would never find the poor outside the city. Within a few weeks, the Sisters were able to procure property at Sixth and Sycamore Streets, in the heart of Cincinnati. In January they opened their first school with three divisions: boarding, day and free (poor) schools. During this period the parish schools were beginning in America. These schools were to be the basis of the future works of the Congregation. By 1848 nine parishes in Cincinnati each had its own small school. A priest-friend of Bishop Purcell visited the Sisters of Notre Dame, a few years after their arrival, and was very impressed by their educational methods. He invited them to Boston in 1849 to establish a school for young girls in his poor parish because "no one speaks for girls." It was obvious to Father John McElroy, SJ, that the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur would fulfill his hope. In 1914 the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur extended their educational mission to include the teaching of boys. Sisters became known as outstanding "boy teachers" in the days when boys and girls were taught separately in school.

Remembering a Good Friend: Jan Scott
A Tribute to Jan Scott Written by Britt Flanagan
for Her Memorial Service in Ohio
Much like a dream catcher, Jan possessed the amazing knack of filtering out the bad and developing all that is good in the friends she embraced and those with whom she worked. She was master catalyst and mentor, giving of herself no matter how badly she felt or what commitments she might have had. It was her ability to concentrate on the details that connect rather than those which exclude. Jan encouraged others to be as big as she perceived them and, with that talent, she gave so many the courage to forge new horizons or maintain a difficult course already charted.
For this reason those educators are grateful for her immense impact on the world of independent schools. Her dynamic personality and astute mind made it possible for non-traditional students to realize the value of an alternative education, for educational leaders to improve their leadership skills, for faltering institutions to redefine themselves, and for young faculty and administrators to understand the cutting-edge skills of their trade. If she had lived, her current work for her doctorate at Case Western Reserve University on leadership and women was to be her greatest accomplishment.
Having had the benefit of knowing Jan professionally and personally, I would like to suggest that, if she was here with us today, she might have decided to share some of her many life lessons:

Yale's Sternberg Looks at Student Success Indicators

How can boarding schools interested in broadening their applicant pool assess the potential for success of students whose aptitude test scores are not adequate predictors? Robert Sternberg, IBM Professor of Psychology and Education at Yale University, has spent his career analyzing the skill sets that make up "successful intelligence" including some that may not be measured in standard tests for admission to boarding schools. Sternberg spoke about his research, and how his work might be applied, at the TABS Conference in December. More ...
