Louisville (Ohio) Public Library Obituary Database
Go to the Obituary Database
Welcome to Louisville Public Library's Obituary Database. Ten years ago, librarian Janet Metzger began an intensive indexing project for the obituary files of the Louisville Herald, the weekly newspaper for Louisville, Ohio, which began publication in March 1887 and continues to this day. She and librarian Katherine Courtney completed the initial data entry in 2000. Through the volunteer efforts of computer engineer Scott Courtney , the files have been placed in an online database. Their work has been a labor of love and has resulted in nearly 25,000 names included in this database. Since 1998, Mrs. Metzger has also included the names of recently deceased Louisville residents or people with a Louisville connection printed in the Canton Repository and not printed in the Louisville Herald. The database includes the following information:
  • Last Name
  • First Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Date of Death
  • Parent(s) Names
  • Spouse(s) Names
  • Place of Burial
  • Date and Page Number of the Obituary in the Herald
Each record is also identified by an unique "record number" that is meaningful only within this database but which can be used when ordering printed obituary copies.

82. The Kouts Families
Indiana and ohio Kouts (Couts or Kautz) family genealogy.
http://home.earthlink.net/~devinkouts/gene/PaulKoutsGenResearch.html
The Kouts Families In 1965, Kenneth Kouts of California called inquiring of my origins and any information that I could supply about the Kouts family. He related the following scenario of our family history: "Daniel Kautz was probably the first family member in the US. He settled in PA about 1750 and had 5 sons. One son was Bernhardt, others unknown. All brothers, with families, moved west in the late 1790s. One settled in western Ohio, three settled in Indiana, and the fifth went on to settle in Minnesota." Since that time, some items in the scenario have been discredited and none have been fully substantiated. There were about a dozen "Kautz" men who immigrated to PA in the 1740's and 1750's, other "Kautz/Kouts" members who immigrated to OH in the 1800's and there were Greeks who shortened the name Koutsopolous to Kouts. Was Daniel the first Kouts member in the US? Probably not! It seems more probable that Barnhart's father was Daniel, born 1760 in PA and the son of George Kautz. Are all the Ohio and Indiana "Kouts" descendants in line from Daniel? Possible, but hard to prove.

93. Introduction
genealogy site for the name Derenberger, ohio and West Virginia.
http://www.angelfire.com/ma3/skips/intro.html
Derenberger Genealogy
My purpose:
The reason I am putting my family tree on the internet, is to display my own collection of Derenberger fact and fiction, so that it may be compared with information that other researchers may have. I hope every researcher of the Derenberger name and anyone else with information, who reads this will contact me so that we may put it all together and clear up all the mysteries.
What's in a name?
One question that bothered me at first was, "Why are there so many different spellings of the Derenberger name on the various documents I am finding?". I eventually realized that Germans just arriving from the old country probably could not read or write english and when their names are found on documents, those names are spelled phonetically, the way the person writing them down thought they should be spelled. DERENBERGER, DERENBURGER, DURRENBURGER, DERNBERGER, DURNBERGER, etc., all sound pretty much the same when spoken and could have been spelled any of the above ways. As future generations learned to read and write, they had to choose one spelling or another.

ABOUT THE NEW SITE:
ALL of the prior information is still here, but it has been incorporated into the new site structure. A good deal of the information can be found in the Resources section. The new site will organize the information so that all the similar information is together and provides links to other areas of the site that have additional information (i.e. church locations in the "Land" section will have links to any online church records in the "People" section). This is to make the researcher's life easier. While the former information is still here, the sections don't have ALL of the information I want to add. The structure is as follows:
