Ohio: Geography From the dunes on Lake Erie to the gorge-cut plateau along the Ohio River, from which Ohio takes its name, the land is fairly flat, with some pleasant rolling country and in the southeast small rugged hills leading to the mountains of West Virginia. Before the coming of settlers to the state, it was covered with miles of virgin forest, but today only vestiges of the trees that helped to build the many cities remain. Columbus is the capital and largest city. Cleveland is the center of the state's largest metropolitan area. Other major cities are Cincinnati Toledo , and Akron

I think that this might just be a joke. I am not from Ohio, but I know it is not a very big state. Not only does she buy a plane ticket to fly from Sandusky, OH to Coyahoga Falls, OH, but if you notice, the guy selling the ticket also says that the flight goes through Columbus, OH. 3 of 4 people found this comment helpful. Did you? writes:
Not only do Sandusky and Cuyahoga Falls have no airports, but even if they did, it would take less than two hours to drive there. By flying from Sandusky to Columbus to Cuyahoga Falls, you probably have made about a four hour trip out of what would be normally about two. Also, in the end when Tommy mentions that the whole town is at stake, there is no mention of Cedar Point at all. Now it may be just me, but I think a multi-million dollar amusement park would sustain a city more than an auto parts factory. 1 of 1 people found this comment helpful. Did you?

    Summary of Earlier Work
My first two decades of research work covered the topics of rural change especially urban impacts and sprawl and absentee including corporate land ownership in Appalachian Ohio. Another thread developed an impact analysis of American Electric Power's James M. Gavin Electric Power Plant and captive coal mines in Southern Ohio; this work funded by grants and published by Cooperative Extension and also published in Appalachia got me thinking about the earlier boom bust cycle associated with bituminous coal mining. My love of local history lead me in many directions, and I have made local history a hobby as well as an academic pursuit. The results of the local history pieces are paper on the coal boom in Nelsonville and generally about the impacts of change. This is my most recent effort: "The Nineteenth Century Antecedents of the Current Corporate Landholding Patterns: A Casestudy of the Syndicate in the Southern Ohio Coal Fields," Who Owns America II, (Madison WI, 3-6 June 1998)
