The Ohio Geographic Alliance The Ohio Geographic Alliance is part of the system of state alliances established by the National Geographic Society after the 1984 "Nation At Risk" report revealed a need to revitalize K-12 geography instruction. There are now Alliances in all 50 states, as well as the Canadian provinces and several U.S. territories.The Ohio Geography Alliance has been active since 1990, training several hundred teachers in state and regional workshops. PAUL ELMER FOSTER Paul E. Foster (1919-1998, born Chagrin Falls, Ohio) is my father. This WebSite is composed of memories of his that he wrote when he first started having severe health problems and I asked him to write down his memories for me. They are reproduced here for others' enjoyment and edification. He was proud of his McFarland heritage and traced his roots back, through Richard Warren of the Mayflower, to Scotland. He has written a detailed genealogy. Perhaps his relationship to the real Mother Goose makes him such an engaging writer. He graduated from Case School of Applied Science (Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity) and was immediately commissioned into the U.S. Navy (Commander, USNR) which sent him to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After the war, he moved back to the Cleveland area and worked for Arthur G. McKee and Co. He left McKee and joined our nation's space program. What really ignited a flame in his heart was America's space program. He served as Chief of Technology Utilization and traveled all over the country speaking on the benefits and spin-offs of our space program. He met the original cast of Star Trek and credits the show with making the space program more personal to Americans. He and Julie had two children, Paul Elmer Foster, Jr. (married to Leslie Beck) and Janine Allayne Foster (married to Judge Bruce Woody), and our family traveled all over the country and to other countries. He was very active in his community and church. The songs that accompany the letters represent things which were important to him: his faith, his work, his wife and family, his friends.

Large (6.7 MB) Small (4.4 MB) T he Master's Degree program in Geography allows for broad geographic training in environmental management, land use planning, development, and landscape studies together with the technical specializations of quantitative methods, GIS, remote sensing, and cartography. The program was founded in 1969 and the graduate program was founded in 1971. The department has approximately 150 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students in residence. Both thesis and nonthesis options are available. Students pursuing the thesis option must complete a minimum of nine courses, seven of which must be in geography. Students must also successfully defend both the thesis proposal and the completed thesis. Students following the nonthesis option must complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of graduate study, 50 of which must be in geography. Nonthesis students must develop a program within two fields of systematic emphasis chosen from areas such as cultural, physical, resource management, population or urban, supported by at least two courses in geographic techniques. The degree is completed by passing a three-part comprehensive written examination. Geography courses that are required for both the thesis and nonthesis tracks include Quantitative Methods, Research and Writing, and at least two seminars in geography. Much of the eastern half of the county is hilly while the western half is flat. The county was formed in 1818 being split off from Champaign County. Logan County shares borders with Hardin County to the north, Union County to the east, Champaign County to the south, Shelby county to the west, and Auglaize County to the northwest. The county seat is Bellefontaine. The Great Miami and Mad Rivers drain the western part of the county and the smaller Mill and Rush Creeks drain the eastern part of the county. The Geology and Geography Department Ohio Wesleyan University The Geology and Geography Department has a long and honored history. Ohio Wesleyan University appointed its first professor of geology in 1846. Over the next century and a half, the department grew to encompass physical and cultural geography as well as expanding its fields in geology. The geologist studies the earth environment : the materials that compose the earth, the various physical and chemical changes that occur on its surface and interior, and the history of the planet (including life) from its origin. The State Climatology Office for Ohio The State Climatology Office for Ohio strives to acquire, archive, process and disseminate all climate and weather information that is of value to public officials and organizations, corporations, research scientists, and private citizens of the state. The fact that there is a state climatology office is not widely known around Ohio and many of the requests are either from central Ohio or they are from other states, from persons that know of climate services in their home state.
