Geography of Oklahoma Workshop
By Jeanie Sisson
Moore Teacher Consultant

OKAGE'S two-day Geography of Oklahoma was held June 19-20 in the Sarkeys' Energy Center on the University of Oklahoma campus. Dr. Marvin Baker, geography professor, and Jeanie Sisson, OKAGE Teacher Consultant and a fourth grade teacher in the Moore Public Schools, led the workshop. Teachers participating in the workshop represented schools in Woodward, Moore, Noble, Tulsa, Morris, Watonga, Ada, Taloga, Norman, Orlando, and Tulsa. After Jeanie involved participants in a five themes activity centered around the geography of Oklahoma, Dr. Baker discussed geographic principles that provided the foundation for additional activities and lectures related to Oklahoma's geography. Participants created elevation maps, graphed urban and rural population from 1910 to 1990, added landforms and bodies of water to Oklahoma-shaped cookies, and discussed a wall-sized picture graph showing the growth of the Moore School District. Between the activities, Dr. Baker lectured on the physical, economic, and cultural geography as well as the population and settlement patterns in Oklahoma. He concluded with a discussion about Oklahoma and its role in the United States. He focused on the distinction between growth and development, the influence of surrounding states, the possibilities of what we want to become, and the steps that will shape our future.

OUTLINE MAPS AND GEOGRAPHY ACTIVITY CARDS
The World: Blank Map Forms: The 46 reproducible blank maps of continents and countries contained in this book have a wide range of teaching applications. You can enhance your educational program by incorporating these maps into units of study, activity centers, and bulletin boards.
Here are some of the excellent uses for the 46 blank Map Forms (which, by the way, are perforated for easy removal from the book):
    * Student-made atlases Have students save the maps you use for study. Once completed, have children make a cover and staple the individual maps inside.
    * Political or physical maps Cover topics as diverse as world governments and topography with the same set of maps filled in with different information.

INTRODUCTION Welcome my fellow geographers! With vast improvements and technological advances on the information superhighway, it has become difficult to track down information. This page is designed to help eliminate confusion by serving as a central location for linking you to various geography web pages. I will first briefly introduce myself and discuss my current research interests. If you are interested in learning a new topic, I have posted links from various branches of geography and academic journals. For those who are looking for government agency websites or ways to download census and GIS data there are plenty of links to choose from. If you are looking for daily news or current events, there are several links posted. At last, for those who are interested in looking for jobs in geography there are links posted to assist you with your search.
