Louisiana With and Without Centralized Libraries.” (Doctoral dissertation, OklahomaState Univ.). Students visit school library media centers some 2.2
http://www.oelma.org/QuotableLibraryInfo.htm
What a school district thinks about its libraries is a measure of what it feels about education! “There is a significant body of research that demonstrates that a qualified teacher-librarian (media specialist) has a positive impact on school culture and student achievement. Indeed, several studies have been established that teachers collaborate more in schools with a teacher-librarian and students read more, enjoy reading more, write better, access and use information more effectively and excel in academic content areas.” Ken Haycock, 1996. “Competencies for Teacher-Librarians in the 21st Century,” Teacher-Librarian, February, 1996. “What do students need in order to succeed? The latest research insists they need strong library programs. There is one clear and consistent finding that is supported by our research: a school library media program with a full-time library media specialist, support staff, and a strong computer network leads to higher student achievement.” Hamilton-Pennell, Christine, et.al. “Dick and Jane Go to the Head of the Class,” School Library Journal, April, 2000, p. 44-47.

state certified teachers

Interested students come from public high schools within 29 technology center districts consisting of 54 campuses statewide, and take the math and science courses along with desired vocational courses. The math and science teachers are hired and their salaries are paid from the operating budgets of the technology centers.
At least 14 math and/or science teachers have been hired at 22 technology districts, according to Belinda McCharren with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. She said eight centers are not hiring academic teachers, five will employ part-time retired teachers, three centers are adding certified teachers from current staff, and six centers are hiring new academic teachers. The total includes 11 math teachers, two science teachers, and one combination math and science instructor hired at the technology centers. Seven technology districts had not returned teacher surveys.
Autry Technology Center
Autry Technology Center in Enid is one of several entering the realm of the academic 3Rs. A part-time math teacher who is retired from the public school system was hired by the career technology center Aug. 1. The teacher will provide two algebra II classes and a geometry course at the center, said Superintendent Jim Strate. Autry currently has no science classes.
