In 1891 a young Yorkshireman named J. Astley Cooper proposed that a festival be staged "to draw closer the ties between the nations of the empire." Although his idea was enthusiastically supported throughout the British Empire, it was not yet time for his dream to become reality. Twenty years after Cooper first spoke out, the seeds of the modern sport spectacle known as the Commonwealth Games were sown during festivities celebrating the coronation of King George V. A Festival of Empire was a highlight of the celebrations, and part of that Festival was an Inter-Empire Sports Meeting. Teams came from Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Canada, South Africa, and the United Kingdon to compete in track and field, swimming, boxing, and wrestling. Edging the United Kingdom by a single point, Canada was awarded the Lonsdale Cup, an impressive silver trophy weighing 340 ounces. More important than the trophy was the significance attached to the gathering itself by a number of the participants, particularly Richard Coombes of Australia, who would spend the rest of his life working to establish an "Empire Sports" gathering. In the years following the Festival of Empire-interrupted only by the heart breaking years of the First World War -sport enthusiasts from all over the Empire worked tirelessly to promote the concept of an Empire meet.

    APPEAL
FROM THE ALL-ARMENIAN GAMES INITIATIVE COMMITTEE Dear Compatriots, The summer Games of the XXVI Olympiad in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., marked the one-hundredth anniversary of the modern Olympic Games. The Republic of Armenia took part for the first time with an independent delegation, bringing together the top current Armenian athletes. However, sports are not merely the privilege of Olympians or great champions, but rather of all youth. In the Armenian Diaspora, sports occupy a privileged position among the activities of young people. Several decades ago, regional and international athletic competitions were held in various cities and countries around the world. In general, such competitions and games took place during Buster, which allowed young Armenian men and women from different countries and continents to make contact and create ties of friendship. Unfortunately, such competitions are not yet universal in nature on a global scale. It should be noted that for both specific reasons and by established tradition, they are organized in a parallel fashion by various Armenian Diaspora organizations. Consequently, neither the Republic of Armenia nor the Armenian communities in other countries created within the post-Soviet region, including the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, participate.

Taekwondo is a martial art independently developed over 20 centuries ago in Korea. Over the many years it has become a popular international sport. The main feature of Taekwondo is that it is a free-fighting combat sport using the bare hands and feet to repel the opponent. Taekwondo literally means the way of kicking and punching . It consists of sharp strong angular movements with free flowing circular movements to produce a balance of beauty and power. With the addition of Taekwondo's trademark kicking techniques it is a complete system of self defense and personal improvement. All of its activities are based on the defensive attitude that originally developed for protection against enemy attacks.
The most important fact about Taekwondo is that it is not only a superior art of self-defense , but of the mind as well. It gives its practitioners self-confidence that provides an advantage over weaker opponents. This mental characteristic along with the physical ability is beneficial to the mental life of individuals as well as to their families and friends. With its practical means of self defense, its complete regiment of physical conditioning, and its aid to improved concentration and mental performance, Taekwondo offers a

    Taekwondo History
The origin of Taekwondo traces back to the three kingdoms of Koguryo (37 BC-668 AD), Paekche (18 BC-600 AD), and Silla (57 BC-936 AD). Archaeological findings (mural paintings on the royal tombs of the Koguryo dynasty, the stone sculptures of pagadas of temples of the Silla period, and documents written in the Paekche dynasty) showed fighting stances, skills, and formalized movements similar to today's Tae Kwon Do styles and forms.
The modern period of Taekwondo began with the liberation of Korea in 1945 after World War II. Korea wanted to eliminate Japanese influences (in martial arts) and began to unite the various martial arts schools (Kwans) and styles into a single style and national sport. In 1965, the name Tae Kwon Do was chosen to represent this unified style of Korean martial arts.
Chronological Achievements of Tae Kwon Do

TEN YEARS OF INITIATIVE FOR PEACE
    UNITED NATIONS SUPPORT
The first initiatives were launched by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1992. In order for the project to have a greater impact, the IOC relayed it to the United Nations (UN). Since 1993, the UN General Assembly has repeatedly expressed its support for the IOC by unanimously adopting, every two years, one year before each edition of the Olympic Games, a resolution entitled "Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal". Through this symbolic resolution, the UN invites its member States to observe the Olympic Truce individually or collectively, and to seek, in conformity with the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter, the peaceful settling of all international conflicts through peaceful and diplomatic means, and recognising the importance of the IOC initiatives for human well-being and international understanding.
"Olympic ideals are also United Nations ideals: tolerance, equality, fair play and, most of all, peace. Together, the Olympics and the United Nations can be a winning team. But the contest will not be won easily. War, intolerance and deprivation continue to stalk the earth. We must fight back. Just as athletes strive for world records, so must we strive for world peace"

The original ones were selected from the articles related to Olympics, appeared in our newspapers, which are all written in Japanese. A new software system called Internet New Esperanto (INE) was used to translate them into English and Chinese. This system is not perfect yet, so that we must excuse for incompleteness of the translation. The INE project, which aims to propose a new standard language for Internet, is developed by Shinshu University, Co.Ltd. Densan and the Shinano Mainichi Newspaper. From this language, the translations to many languages are easy, and the converse is also true. People will understand other languages more deeply and will have an occasion to be interested in them, by our INE system.
