Oracle has been intensely focused on the midlevel applications sector for the last year; it introduced its FastForward quick-start bundles last summer and then slashed their pricing in November. Some analysts point to the recent downturn in Asia and the traditional end-of-the year slowdown in major purchases as contributing factors. Oracle executives also reportedly cite a stall in sales to telecommunications companies as well as "growing pains." In addition, according to Michael Abbey of the International Oracle Users Group, it could partly be a reflection of the fact that the packaged app market is so hot, Oracle may be struggling to find enough bodies to keep pace with demand.
