View Of Cornucopia Mountains, north of Halfway.
Located in beautiful Northeast Oregon, Halfway is east of Baker City and only a short drive from famous Hells Canyon. In January 2000 we adopted the name of Half.com, in partnership with the internet company half.com.
Read the story about our name change. Please visit our friends at to buy or sell books, music, movies and games. Halfway is a great place to live and raise a family. Surrounded by BLM and US Forest Service land, Halfway is an outdoor recreation paradise. With Snake River and Hells Canyon on our eastern side, fishing and boating are big attractions in the area. Camping and hunting in the surrounding mountains are also a favorite activity for both locals and guests. Snowmobiling on the many miles of groomed trails is a favorite winter- time activity. Halfway is situated in scenic Pine Valley. Settled in the 1860's, Pine Valley has a long history of agriculture, mining and timber production. Cattle are the main economic base these days. Our long winters require lots of hay to get the cattle through to the spring grass, so watch out for tractors and livestock on the roads, ranchers are busy people around these parts! Many local festivities occur throughout the year. The Lion's Club Crab Feed in March and the annual Labor Day Fair and Rodeo are two of the best and biggest!

Welcome to Pendleton OR, the Round-Up City. In cooperation with the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce , our friendly merchants and citizens, and our friends of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation , we will do everything possible to see that you have a most enjoyable and relaxing visit in the greater Pendleton area. Pendleton is rich in heritage and world famous for the original Pendleton Woolen Mills , along with the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon show. I urge you to visit Pendleton Underground Tours, which is rapidly becoming one of the premier tourist attractions in the Pacific Northwest and to date has had visitors from over 100 foreign countries. I recommend a visit to the Umatilla County Courthouse to view the recently dedicated clock tower and to admire the 100-year-old Seth Thomas clockworks. And check out the Pendleton Convention Center for your organization's next convention, meeting or trade show. Just as the travelers on the Old Oregon Trail paused and rested here before going on to the Willamette Valley and other points, we hope you will pause, rest and relax during your stay, as you will find the Pendleton area rich in the warmth and friendliness of the old west. As we say in Pendleton, "Let 'er Buck!" Bob Ramig, Mayor

February 19, 2003 “So today, we launch the Ready Campaign. Its goal: To build a more prepared nation, one individual, one family, one neighborhood, one community at a time. We're launching this initiative through a multi-year, multi-media information and public service advertising campaign, donated by several private sector partners, reaching every single citizen in our great country. Our message is this: We cannot always predict an attack; we can always prepare. There are simple things you and your family can do to prepare for the unlikely but possible terrorist incident, namely: Make a kit, make a plan, and be informed.” For more information, go to
