You Are Here: Home Violence Creating Creating Ridicule-Free Zones OSBA offered a special bonus for convention goers in November - The inspiring Don’t Laugh At Me presentation by Peter Yarrow and his daughter, Bethany. Yarrow has been traveling the county sharing what he calls “the most important work of my career.” His Don’t Laugh at Me project (DLAM) seeks to transform schools and other youth organizations into more compassionate, safe and respectful environments for children. DLAM provides free educational resources through its Web site to help establish a safe school climate. Through music, video and classroom activities, the DLAM program helps sensitize children to the painful effects of behaviors that too often are accepted as necessary rites of passage in childhood -ridicule, disrespect (or “dissing”), ostracism and bullying. Materials help schools encourage:
  • The healthy expression of feelings; Caring, compassion, cooperation; Creative resolution of conflicts; Appreciation of differences.
Three programs are geared to grades 2-5, grades 6-8 and to summer camps and after-school programs. Music, video and materials are based on conflict resolution curricula developed by the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP) of Educators for Social Responsibility (ESR).

Freshman Early Achievement and Transition (FEAT) is a rigorous four-week preparatory program for motivated college-bound students combining a 2-credit preparatory course called "Nova" and a 4-credit OSU Baccalaureate Core course.
Purpose
Statistics indicate that even for the highest achievers, transition issues can be difficult and play a pivotal role in the first year of college. The requirements for critical thinking and performance on college-level exams often overwhelm a student who is also adjusting to challenges of the new learning and living environment. This comprehensive summer experience addresses these issues in a hands-on, challenging, and interactive manner, while introducing students to different majors and providing academic advising. Taking responsibility for one's own learning, discovering fundamentals of academic leadership, and making good academic decisions are topics woven throughout the program. Components Nova course:
  • Unique learning workshops using a model called Learning Nova with a nine-year record of success helping students excel at college-level work.

    National Association of Marine Labs
Across the United States, a network of marine labs is one of the critical components of our national ability to conduct marine research and educate undergraduate and graduate students. Many of these same labs also create and promote educational activities at the K-12 level. This site is a model of how the National Association of Marine Labs (NAML) can provide a common portal for making these K-12 education capabilities more obvious and available. Dr. Lavern Weber, current president of NAML, has made education at the K-12 level a focus for his term as president and this site and its future expansion by NAML to all marine labs are one of the products of that focus. The majority of text comes directly from the education pages of the institutions, which can be accessed directly from the linked information pages below.

    Camp Henry's Staff
programs and services. Our professional staff includes: Judy Astle , Executive Director Judy is the first full-time executive in Camp Henry's 62 year history. Under her guidance since 1993, the camp has blossomed into a year-round camp and conference center, more than doubling the number of camper days and quintupling the number of retreat groups using the facility. Judy provided the impetus that created Camp Henry's 3 beautiful Challenge Courses and the expansion of challenging, quality teen programming.
Judy has a long history in Christian camping, beginning in family camps, attending summer camps and youth conferences, and eventually volunteering as a counselor for several years at Camp Alexander Mack in Milford, Indiana. Over the years while a counselor, Judy's duties included music director, camp newsletter coordinator, and offsite trip counselor.
Judy's youthful adventures also included 13 months living in Tokyo Japan as an exchange student with International Christian Youth Exchange, and a BA from the University of Michigan in Japanese language and Anthropology.
She later earned a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and practiced law in the State of Michigan for over 14 years, before turning her talents to growing the ministry that is Camp Henry. Christian mission work with Habitat for Humanity and similar programs were a meaningful part of her lawyering years.
