Additionally, we are building partnerships with cultural organizations and destinations in order to launch a cultural tourism campaign, with public relations and other marketing elements. Oregon has high-end resorts, world-class golf, fantastic regional cuisine, award-winning wines, 62 districts on the National Register of Historic Places, nearly 500 museums and art galleries, nine native tribes, and four National Historic Trails. All of these cultural amenities are backdropped by our incredible scenery and geographic diversity. The challenge is to package our culture with this beauty. Julie Curtis, Assistant Director

Oregon Tourism Commission Launches New Travel Magazine
Publication Designed to Promote State, Inspire Travel
Press Release: Oregon Tourism Commission
February 21, 2002
SALEM, OR In a bold move to bolster tourism and increase awareness of the diverse beauty and attractions of Oregon, the Oregon Tourism Commission (OTC) has unveiled an all-new magazine designed to promote travel to and within the state.
Called ``Travel Oregon,'' the four-color glossy represents the first time OTC has blended a travel guide with the look and feel of a contemporary lifestyle magazine.
The new magazine includes a combination of feature stories on popular Oregon offerings, special interest sections, a calendar of events, and suggested trip itineraries as well as informative advertising. Launching today is the premier 128-page ``Spring/Summer'' issue, which includes feature stories on Oregon's lush public gardens, paddling the wild Rogue River, exploring eastern Oregon, golfing hotspots, five suggested three-day getaways, and the state's bountiful farms and orchards, including recipes to try at home. The magazine represents a significant departure from the travel guide format previously used by the commission, which included mostly facts and figures, offering no feature articles or seasonal focus. Unlike the previous travel guide, which was updated every other year, ``Travel Oregon'' will be published twice a year and feature new, seasonal stories in each issue.
OTC reviewed visitor feedback, national research and travel industry trends to help develop the new concept.
