Parapsychology Near Death Experiences Are They Real ? A 9 page research paper examining the validity of alleged N ear D eath E xperiences ( NDE ). Since Raymond Moody coined the term with the publication of Life After Life in 1975, the entire issue has been under debate. Though some researchers maintain that the NDE is nothing more than a product of physiological changes the body undergoes when death is imminent, their scientific logic is found to be faulty. The body of knowledge surrounding the NDE is too vast to be dismissed because of our inability to clinically replicate the events encompassed by the NDE. That same inability does nothing to prevent the stars from existing and maintaining their positions, either. Those who have returned unshakably hold that their experiences were in fact very real, regardless of what some researchers want to say about those experiences. Thus, the writer of this paper makes a strong argument that NDEs are indeed, very real. Bibliography lists 9 sources. FREE Outline included. Nde.wps

Parapsychology
Throughout history people have reported wittnessing a variety of unusual phenomena such as ghosts, telepathy, and the like. These events were often interpreted from the perspective of religeon and folklore. Then, during the 19th century, academics began to investigate such phenomena and formed societies for psychical research. At first, these societies seemed to be making progress; however, their work often failed to stand up to critical review. In the absence of scientific data, the existance of psychical phenomena seemed more a matter of personal opinion than established fact. To address the controversy surrounding psychical phenomena, J. B. and Louisa Rhine established the field of parapsychology to investigate supposed psychical phenomena with controlled laboratory experiments. They created the first parapsychology laboratory at Duke University in 1930. Early experiments involved people who would try to guess the outcome of random events; such as the next card of a shuffled deck, or the next value of rolled dice. Each correct guess was called a hit, and each wrong guess was called a miss. Generally, if the number of hits or misses was significantly greater than that expected by random chance, some form of psychical phenomena may have been detected. The results of early experiments were difficult to interpret. Critics pointed out that experimenters may have unwittingly influenced their subjects with unconscious cues. As the experiments were refined, criticism turned towards the statistical analysis of the data and exactly what could be explained through chance alone. Over the years, parapsychologists became very concerned with the design of their experiments and grew ever more dependant on statistical experts for interpretation of the data. Modern experiments are much more sophisticated than their predecessors and many parapsychologists believe that there is a scientific case for the existance of psychical phenomena. The subject, however, continues to remain highly controversial.

New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc., 1990: 113-122, 10 pages (BF 1031). This book is about the military aspects of parapsychology. This chapter begins for time immemorial, warriors and their intuition have been inextricably linked. The topics are Progress and intuition, Eureka, Developing the intuitive decision process, and Going against the tide. The chapter concludes The warrior needs his intuition. We hope we have convinced you that you need yours. Costa de Beauregard, O. Quantum Paradoxes and Aristotle's Twofold Information Concept. Chapter 7 in: Mind at Large: Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Symposia on the Nature of Extrasensory Perception . Edited by Charles T. Tart, Harold E. Puthoff, and Russell Targ. New York: Praeger Publishers, 1979: 175-187, 13 pages (BF 1021). Information is a two faced medal: cognitive awareness (a gain in knowledge - entropy increasing) on one side, volitive awareness (the power of organization - entropy decreasing) on the other. Thus information is the hinge around which mind and matter interact. Given this understanding, relativistic quantum mechanics is a conceptual scheme where PSI phenomena are very rational. Can claims of ESP, or extrasensory perception, be studied as a science? Can claims of strange, psychic phenomena be subject to the scientific method? Parapsychology is the scientific study of Paranormal or Psi Phenomena. It is the careful investigation of events like mental telepathy, knowing the future or bizarre manifestations that seemingly cannot be accounted for by natural law or knowledge. The claim that parapsychology is a science excites some, and annoys others. So, is parapsychology a new science or an old fraud? Participants: Beyerstein, Radin, Schlitz, Tart, Trefil Barry Beyerstein is professor of neuropsychology at Simon Fraser University in Canada. He is a leading skeptic, on the Executive Council of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), and a frequent contributor to The Skeptical Inquirer. Dean Radin Marilyn Schlitz is Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a leading research and membership organization devoted to interdisciplinary and diverse studies of the mind. Trained as an anthropologist, she has conducted some of the most important research in parapsychology.

Welcome
The American Association for Parapsychology was established in 1971, to provide a better understanding of the scientific basis for extrasensory perception, and to assist in the development of a viable science, by reducing erroneous and preconceived ideas about psychical phenomena and their occurrences.
For more than three decades, the AAP has helped to bridge the gap between the laboratory research of academic parapsychology and the experimental ESP participation among layman, by offering public education and instruction into the psychical world, through study of A Complete Course in Parapsychology
AAP Membership is open to all individuals regardless of previous training and includes a ten hour audio cassette course, A Complete Course in Parapsychology , offering the histories, theories, experimental data, experiences, and practical methods of development of human experiences of an extrasensory nature: Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Hypnosis and Sensory Awareness, Psychometry (Psychoscopy), Psychokinesis, Dermo-Optical Perception, Radiesthesia, the Human Aura, Spiritual Healing and the Medium. Also included is a Certificate of Membership and Diploma in Parapsychology, suitable for framing, indicating your interest and participation in studies and activities dedicated to the advancement of human understanding.
For individuals who wish to receive training and cerrtification as a Parapsychologist, it is recommended that they complete the American Association for Parapsychology, "

AAP A Guide for Understanding Parapsychology A Complete Course in Parapsychology Home AAP Membership Benefits ... AAP Lifetime Members/Fellows Introductory Message from Paul Philips, Ph.D.
It has been more than thirty years since I wrote this preface to A Complete Course in Parapsychology , first published in 1971. At that time, I wanted to clarify, for myself and others, my understanding of Parapsychology and its significance for the human condition: What it meant for the psychological and spiritual needs of people and not merely laboratory experiments.
In the past three decades there has been a surging interest in psychical phenomena and the metaphysical, as well as the birth of a New Age movement, of widespread interest in consciousness expansion and personal growth. During these past three decades, the sales of literature and films that border on the occult have soared. Such occurrences firmly establish the need for public education into the psychical world through Parapsychology, where universal understanding of such phenomena exists in its most lucid form.
