Designated Areas Off Limits Safety With the arrival of winter, all those Alpine District roads you came to know and love through the summer take on a fresh new face. And in the process they offer forest visitors a whole new set of recreation opportunities. Snowmobiling through this winter wonderland gives you a chance to get to know your favorite forest haunts all over again. In many cases, you'll be surprised to find that, in their winter set of clothes, you'll barely recognize areas that you thought were as familiar as, well, your own back yard. On the Alpine District, interest in snowmobiling focuses on two main locations. One of these near Williams Valley six miles northwest of Alpine, is a broad, wide-open meadow set aside strictly for snowmobiling. The other is centered around the Hannagan Meadow Lodge, 22 miles south of Alpine, where there is a network of snowed-in forest roads marked with orange diamonds for snowmobile use. In addition to these designated areas you won't want to overlook all those other forest roads in the Alpine high country which have been transformed by the area's snowpack into miles of opportunities for winter riding fun. Designated areas: At Williams Valley, six miles northwest of Alpine, the District has set aside an area for snowmobiling just east and north of the valley's cross country ski trails. From this big meadow play area, roads head out in the direction of the scenic drainages of the east and west forks of the

City Weekends ... Discussion Boards Birding in Kenya Kenya has a vast variety of species, over 1000, in a vast variety of habitats. From montane forest to tropical coast, in every conceivable altitude range: deserts, open savannah grassland, lowland forest, bush and scrub, lakes and mudflats. This huge variety of birds is made possible by the lack of climatic extremes. Kenya straddles the equator and has no 'summer' or 'winter' as such - only wet and dry seasons. In the northern latitudes huge numbers of birds migrate south to avoid the harsh oncoming winters. From as far east as the Bering Straits and as far west as the northern tip of Norway - they come in their millions to East Africa. It has been estimated, give or take a few million, that as many as 6,000 million birds make the journey each year. Combine the migratory birds to the incredible variety of local birds, and you have an ornithological paradise. DisplayAds ("Middle!Middle", "250", "250");

Welcome at Etosha Fly-In Safaris'
INFORMATION CENTER
NAMIBIA
Attractions Regions Windhoek
is the attractive capital of the country and surrounded by mountains. Like other towns in the country, it has several examples of German colonial architecture, including the Christuskirche , the Alte Feste and the Tintenpalast (Ink Palace), the former colonial administrative building. The delightful little seaside resort of Swakopmund is situated in the middle of Namibia’s coastline, surrounded by desert and sea. is a small port in the southern Namib region, with much charm and atmosphere from bygone days of diamond prospecting. Ai-Ais and Gross Barmen are hot-spring resorts. The Brandberg/Twyfelfontein area has some very ancient rock engravings and paintings of which the White Lady of the Brandberg is the most well known. The Petrified Forest and the Welwitschia mirabilis plant are other attractions. Namibia’s many attractions include ten national parks, under the control of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Some of them are listed below. The Etosha National Park is one of the most famous game sanctuaries in the world and remains largely free of human influence. Its 22,270 sq km (8599 sq miles) are located in the north around the Etosha Pan. This depression is 1065m (3494ft) above sea level, forming a huge, salty hollow which is only occasionally filled with water and surrounded by grasslands and bush. There are vast stocks of wildlife, particularly elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, springboks, kudus, gemsboks or oryxes, hyenas, jackals, leopards and cheetahs. It is open throughout the year. There are well-equipped camps with comfortable rondavel accommodation and camping facilities.
