National parks
Photo: Tero Pajukallio Hiidenportti National Park National parks are gems of Finnish landscape and nature. In them, not only typical biotopes, but also the most valuable and unique Finnish biotopes are protected. There are already more than thirty national parks in Finland. The primary purpose of national parks is to safeguard the diversity of Finnish nature. When establishing national parks, attention has also been paid to the protection of natural sights and Finnish history. The parks feature rapids, canyons and esker formations, spectacular scenery, and panoramic views. Old dwellings and cultural landscapes, like regenerated slashed and burned forests, meadows once used for grazing, and natural meadows, resulting from human impact are also preserved in the national parks. No present-day dwellings exist in state-owned protected areas. Photo: Matti Tirri

Parks Does the Council contribute to a fence between our property and a Council Reserve? Yes. As a general guideline the Council will pay up to $21.50 per metre inc GST for our half share of the fence. We will also contribute to the removal of the old fence.
You will need to contact the Area Advocate to discuss and confirm options before work is carried out.
After you have spoken to the Area Advocate and confirmed arrangments, you can either pay the full amount and then send a copy of the account with a covering letter into the Parks and Waterways Unit and the Area Advocate will check the fence and length of it. If it meets with our approval and measurements, a cheque will be sent to you.
Alternatively the fencing contactor can send half the account to you and half to the CCC and, once again, after the fence is checked, the account will be paid. If you wish to put in a gate, it will be at your expense.

95. Park2
general introduction to some of the areas managed by the National Park Service.
http://www.valdosta.edu/~dlscott/national_parks/parks.html
America's National Parks
Three hundred and seventy-nine areas currently managed by the National Park Service are scattered throughout the United States. Only about 15 percent of these areas are officially designated national parks. Other areas are designated as national monuments, national seashores, national historic sites, national lakeshores, national battlefields, national historical parks, etc. Each area offers something special and worthwhile.
Many areas managed by the National Park Service have historical themes. For example, the homes of former presidents Hoover, Lincoln, Kennedy, Taft, Truman, Van Buren, F. Roosevelt, T. Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Johnson, and Carter are all part of the national park system. Likewise, many battlefields of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War are preserved and managed by the National Park Service. In the Plains and western United States, travelers should visit some of the historic forts that have been preserved. These include Fort Davis, Fort Laramie, Fort Scott, Fort Larned, and Bent's Old Fort. The National Park Service manages all of these areas. In general, the big and well-known natural areas are in the western United States, while the smaller, historical areas are in the eastern United States. Most national park areas charge an entrance fee. Some parks charge by the vehicle while other charge by the person. If you plan to visit several park areas during the year consider buying a Golden Eagle Passport that permits a year of unlimited visits to all the parks. The year begins on the day you purchase the pass. Special passes are available to seniors and the disabled. Inquire about any of these passes at a park entrance station or visitor center. The Golden Eagle Passport is available to anyone and can be purchased by mail but a Golden Age Passport for seniors or Golden Access Passport for the disabled must be purchased in person.
