Recommendations on How the Health Care Industry
Can More Effectively Address Family Violence
Health Care Working Group
  • Medical, nursing, allied health and behavioral health schools should include on-going family violence education in their curricula. Questions on family violence should be included on all applicable boards and certification exams for medical, nursing, allied health and behavioral health professions. Continuing education on family violence, which includes routine screening, identification, appropriate interventions, utilization of community resources and the effects of violence on children, should be required for health care providers to renew their license. The Office of Attorney General should develop an educational video and study guide on family violence for health care practitioners. The Attorney General’s Family Violence Task Force Health Care Working Group should publish and disseminate a "Best Practices" booklet highlighting those Pennsylvania health care providers that have in place the best policies and procedures addressing family violence. Hospitals and health systems should provide routine screening for family violence for all males and females 18 years of age and older.

    Pennsylvania PrayerNet
United in Prayer for Our Leaders
Because of the unique challenges that confront them on a daily basis, our leaders need our prayers, and they need to know they are being upheld in prayer. Through the PrayerNet, we desire to connect every legislator with one or more 'prayer partners' from his or her district who will commit to receiving prayer requests and interceding on a regular basis. As we come before the throne of Grace on behalf of our leaders throughout the year, pray that those in authority would:
    • Have a reverence for God and realize that they are accountable to God for each decision and act (Prov. 9:10) Seek and be granted wisdom, knowledge and understanding from God (Js. 1:5) Be drawn to a saving knowledge of Christ; if born-again, that they be strengthened and encouraged in their faith (Eph. 1:17-23) Recognize their own dependency on God, pray and seek the will of God (Prov. 3:5-8; Lk. 11:9-13)

The members of the committee responsible for the report were chosen for their competencies and with regard for appropriate balance. This report has been reviewed by a group other than the authors according to procedures approved by a Report Review Committee consisting of members of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine.
