The Best Gala Ever! Community Advisory Board chairwoman Jane Adams delivered these words of appreciation at the performance: This is so crucial to continuing and building on the fine tradition in the arts that we have here in northern Colorado. Students around Colorado and throughout the nation know that this is a great school to attend to prepare themselves for a career in the arts. But, in times when many students juggle part-time jobs to put themselves through college, scholarship funding is critical in continuing to bring the best and the brightest to UNC. Performing and Visual Arts Building Boom Arts Annex addition Renovation and construction projects exceeding $9 million are currently underway to provide updated and expanded facilities for the Department of Visual Arts. A 7500 square foot addition to the Arts Annex and remodeling of the existing 7800 square feet Annex is complete. Sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and the foundations studio occupy the Annex addition. Photography expanded into most of the original Annex and includes a digital photographic imaging system lab. Work has also begun on the nearly 100 year old Gugg

Back to About The Center
February 2003
On Thursday, February 6, The Orange County Performing Arts Center held a groundbreaking celebration for its first major expansion project since opening in 1986. The spectacular new landmark structure designed by internationally renowned architect Cesar Pelli will be adjacent to the existing Center and include the 2,000-seat Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and the 500-seat multi-purpose Samueli Theater. It will cost $200 million, paid entirely through private funds, and will open in the fall of 2006. Henry Segerstrom donated $40 million of the cost in August of 2000, and this remains the single largest charitable gift in the history of Orange County. The Center also announced that it has signed a lump sum contract with a corporate guarantee with Fluor Corporation, which will serve as the construction manager. The lump-sum contract will provide a corporate guarantee that the project will be built within budget.
The groundbreaking ceremonies were open to the public, though the assembled guests also included Center donors, members of The Center's support groups, civic leaders, representatives from local arts organizations and The Center's board of directors. Guests filled The Center's current 3,000-seat Segerstrom Hall to recognize the occasion and then moved outside to witness the official groundbreaking with three bulldozers turning the first soil to mark this historical occasion.
It opened with introductions of major donors to the expansion's capital campaign, a performance by Orange County's Pacific Symphony and remarks by Henry Segerstrom, founding chairman; Paul F. Folino, current chairman of the board of directors; Jerry E. Mandel, president of The Center; Roger T. Kirwan, vice-chair for the capital campaign, and Carl St.Clair, music director of the Pacific Symphony.
