Favorite Questions Asked by Employers During Interviews
by L. Patrick Scheetz, Ph.D.
Assistant Director, Alumni Career Center
MSU Alumni Association

When employers responded to the Recruiting Trends survey, they were gracious enough to share some of their better, favorite, and most regularly used interviewing questions.  A few of their best are listed and would be an excellent resource for graduating students and alumni when preparing for interviews with prospective employers. Personal and Motivational Factors Please tell me about yourself.  How would you handle rejection?  Who or what had the greatest influence on your life? How would you describe yourself?  What are some of the greatest personal challenges you have faced during your lifetime?  What are some of your personal goals, and have you achieved them? Skills and Abilities What skills and abilities do you possess that will help make you successful in today's job market?  Please discuss some of your past leadership roles and your accomplishments in them.  Please describe a frustrating experience from school or work, and tell me how you dealt with it.  How do you interact with people around you (i.e. leadership, communication, socializing, etc.)? Organizational Skills Why should our organization hire you?  For you, what are some of the pros and cons of working on a team project?  Have you ever supervised someone in a similar position with another organization?  How would you describe your supervisory style?  Who was the most difficult person you have ever dealt with, and how did you respond?

    Statistical Process Control (SPC) Class
    Why This Class
The instructor, Michael L. McDonald, developed this class based on 18 years of industrial training and application experience. This course is specifically designed to clearly teach application, so students leaving the class know how to think and what to do . Students will be able to recognize and apply proper statistical techniques and how to respond to a wide range of methods, statistics and graphical techniques. Our training philosophy does this by using many case study examples for each statistical method:
    • to teach improvement opportunity and problem recognition, to accurately define the situation under study, to use proper and appropriate data collection, analysis, and interpretation techniques, and to permanently improve the product and process quality and working practices.
This class will provide certification for Continuing Education Units, Recertification Units, and IVY Tech State College Credit (when held in collaboration with IVY Tech State College).
