Photo Collections State Archives and Historical Research Library State Historical Society of North Dakota The State Historical Society of North Dakota's Photographic Collections contain images dating from 1870 to the present. The largest number of photographs available are from the time period of the 1870s to the 1930s. For ease of access and for conservation and storage purposes, only a facsimile file consisting of office copier reproductions of photographic images is available for patron use in the reading room. The file is arranged by subject. Patrons should request photographs by name of person, place or subject heading. The reference staff can provide specific information. The Huntington Art Collections General Information Blue Boy by Gainsborough and Pinkie by Lawrence. The Virginia Steele Scott Gallery of American Art displays American paintings from the 1730s to the 1930s, augmented by American furniture, sculpture, drawings, prints, and photographs. An important collection of the drawings and manuscripts of architects Charles and Henry Greene, on deposit from the Gamble House (USC), is complemented by a display of Greene and Greene furniture and other decorative art objects from the Arts and Crafts Movement. The Scott complex also houses the West Coast Regional Center of the Archives of American Art, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution, where scholars can study microfilm records relating to American art from colonial times to the present. The Arabella Huntington Memorial Collection, housed in the Library building, is comprised of 18th-century French furniture, sculpture, and Sevres porcelain, as well as Renaissance paintings.
