The British flora possesses a wealth of interesting plants. This site is intended to help you identify them. On the following pages you will be presented with a questionnaire that asks about the characteristics of the plant you are trying to identify. Fill in the form and press search, the computer will then try and identify the plant you have found. You will then have the opportunity to view details about the plants including pictures. You may also like to use the system to obtain a check-list of plants from a particular habitat or perhaps find flowers of a particular colour to grow in your garden. Feel free to experiment, there are many uses for the system. Although, some botanical terms are used, they are kept to a minimum and should not deter anyone trying the system. Please feel free to send me your comments, particularly where improvements can be made. A new key for the website is specific to the Genus Euphrasia . These are a small, but rather attractive group of plants, commonly known as Eyebright. In this country we have at least 22 species, many of which look superficially the same. This key should help you identify them.

38. Sarracenia, Pitcher Plant, Carnivorous Plants, Native Plants, Wildflowers
Sarracenia or pitcher plants, are carnivorous plants and native plantsto the USA, where they are some of the loveliest wildflowers.
http://www.pitcherplant.com/sarracen.html
Sarracenia - North American Pitcher Plants Sarracenia are usually the focus of a hardy carnivorous planting. They are a natural for water's edge or in a bog garden. We recommend mulching where temperatures drop below zero (zone 6-7). North of zone 6 plants must be given protection to prevent sudden, prolonged, deep freezing. Sarracenia need at least six hours of direct sun during spring and summer for best growth. Thorough care and planting information is included with each order. Botanique ships only well established Sarracenia plants that are mature or nearly mature. Our large plants would be too heavy to ship in pots. A typical med.large plant is coming from a 1/2 to 1 gallon container! That size plant is impractical to ship in a pot, so we carefully bare-root the plants and pack them to arrive in excellent shape. When you've got over 60,000 big Sarracenia, you don't need to ship wimpy plants! 100% nursery propagated; we do not sell field-collected plants. Satisfaction GUARANTEED! THE BOG GARDEN SPECIAL This is our most popular item and best value.

What Will You See on a Tour?

Year ‘round you will see well over 100 species of interesting labelled plants and many more yet unmarked. Learn about North American wild edibles, butterfly gardening, wildlife, carnivorous plants, wetland values, and uses for native plants. We'll show you plant and animal artifacts, from magnified butterfly wings to fern fossils. Our carnivorous plant collection includes 7 kinds of pitcher plants, 5 types of sundews, Venus flytraps, bladderworts and more. In the Plants That Do Tricks department, our sensitive plants respond to touch just as dramatically as the Venus flytraps. In the warmer seasons, we can explore several ecosystems here and hunt for butterfly eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises and adults as you learn about the native plants that attract and feed our local butterflies, hummingbirds, and other animals of interest. You'll be surprised to learn that even some of the trees and grasses in your yard are butterfly baby food. Your biologist guide will identify birds, frogs, lizards, etc. and their calls, animal signs, and other curiosities along the way.
