the journal of a stay-at-home feminist mother and writer April 09, 2003 Phone interviews Holly and I appear to be in the same boat today. I just finished one interview and have fifteen minutes before the next one. I dread these absolutely dread them but haven't had a bad one yet. Instead of finding comfort in that, I'm always sure that the next one will be awful. The ones I'm doing today are with the two authors of the AAP policy paper on cord blood banking (for the record, they recommend against private banking) and then I need to schedule a time to talk to the head of a private bank and a public bank (where donated cord blood is stored). I was going to talk to a couple of parents who chose different routes but I don't think I'm going to have space to do so. Posted by Dawn at 09:52 AM April 07, 2003 Interesting research I'm working on an article on cord blood banking and it's been very interesting. This was something that they were just starting to talk about when we had Noah so I didn't know much about it. I got a bunch of packets from private banks and when I read their info and watched their cute little CD-Roms, I completely bought into it. I was ready to sign and send a check right there and I won't even have access to our next baby's cord blood! Just goes to show you how convincing their spiels can be. http://www.obgyn.net/avtranscripts/med forum_dubose.htm The diagnostic sonography (ultrasound) profession is populated by technophiles. In general, people who gravitate to ultrasound are not afraid of technology or computers. For this reason alone, it is not surprising that sonographers and sonologists have flocked to use the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW) for education, consultations and communications with colleagues across the globe. The number of people using the Internet is increasing rapidly worldwide, and medical websites are increasing exponentially. The Web is a graphic mode of communication and it is natural that ultrasound images would be exchanged and discussed via this new medium.
Before the Web was invented, many medical professionals around the world had begun to communicate via email and list servers or discussion groups. The earliest list for OB/GYN discussion was OBGYN-L, established in 1995 by Dr Geffrey H. Klein while he was a resident at Baylor School of Medicine in Houston. In 1996 OBGYN-L went onto the Web, the power of the Web was recognised for the sharing of visual information such as ultrasonograms ... and Ultrasound@OBGYN.net was born in November 1997 [1].

End of Health Care for Immigrants?
Impact of Immigrant Benefits Disqualifications on APIA Health and the Health of the Public
Introduction Benefits Disqualifications Provisions of H.R.2202 and S.1664 In general, the Immigration Control and Financial Responsibility Act (S.1664) and the Immigration in the National Interest Act (H.R.2202) both impose immigrant disqualifications through sponsor deeming on all or most needs-based programs including health programs. S.1664 imposes deeming on all health programs that are funded in full or in part by the federal government. H.R.2202 also imposes deeming but exempts programs that are available to undocumented immigrants (emergency medical services, immunization, treatment of communicable diseases, battered spouse and children services) in addition to community/migrant health clinic services. The length of disqualifications through deeming lasts until naturalization for future immigrants in both bills. While H.R.2202 is silent on deeming for current residents, S.1664 imposes deeming for the first five years of residency for current immigrants. In addition, both bills expand the definition of public charge and thus, lower the threshold of immigrants subject for deportation. Whereas the current law makes immigrants deportable if they use cash assistance in the first five years, H.R.2202 includes Medicaid among other programs in its deportation provision (>12 months in first seven years) and S.1664 includes almost all needs-based programs, including all health programs, in its provision (>12 months in first five years).

Theresa Lawson, RN, BSN, CLNC ... Guidelines for the Responsible Utilization of Neonatal Intensive Care, Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care :"The goals of Neonatal Intensive Care vary depending upon the status of the infant. In some cases, the goal is similar to adult intensive care; that is, to return the infant to its normal state of health. For infants born with a special condition or defect, the goal is to repair the problem and support them until they can be cared for at home. The majority of neonatal intensive care admissions are related to prematurity. The goal in these circumstances is to convalesce and support the infants until they have matured and can be cared for at home. Some infants are extremely premature, incurably ill or have defects or conditions where intensive care may only prolong the act of dying or result in survival with profound neurological or physical defects."

Crises of Development
by Dr Ben Green , Consultant Psychiatrist, Halton Hospital, Runcorn, Cheshire. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven Ecclesiastes, 3, 1. Throughout life the self, although retaining some permanent features such as temperament and some personality attributes, must accommodate to a number of largely externally controlled life changes. Such life changes may be the result of early parental loss or unemployment. Some life changes may be internally controlled, such as leaving for university or seeking promotion, but all such life changes, although perhaps stimulated by the individual take on a life of their own, and once begun are relatively out of the self's control, for instance, if an individual takes up a new post, the old post, once resigned is often irrevocably lost. Such internally controlled events are though initially voluntarily controlled. Other internal events may lack voluntariness, such as physical or mental ill-health. One of the most important agents of change, and that may be seen as a generator of most events, is time itself. The age of the individual dictates a variety of events that may shape the individual's current and future life, taking it away from a steady state. The self seeks to minimise the effects of such changes, by attempting a homoeostatic manoeuvre to minimise long-term stress and optimise survival and hopefully, potential.

http://www.xenos-cincy.org/about/histxen.html
A Short History of Xenos Christian Fellowship In 1970, some Ohio State University students, including future senior pastor, Dennis McCallum, began printing an Dennis McCallum, 1970 underground newspaper in the basement of their rooming house, a practice that was popular among students in those days. But theirs was no ordinary underground newspaper. The Fish derived its name from the Greek word for "fish," Icthus , which was also an acronym used by early Christians meaning "Jesus Christ, God's Son, the Savior." The Fish was dedicated to helping other students discover that Jesus Christ holds the key for humanity's problems. Their rooming house on East 16th Avenue was no ordinary student house either. Known as "The Fish House" because of its association with the paper, it became a center for regular Bible studies. These meetings, referred to as "The Fish House Fellowship" attracted students searching for answers during turbulent times. Future co-senior pastor, Gary DeLashmutt moved into the house in 1971.
The Fish newspaper has long since vanished, but today the Bible studies it spawned are flourishing. The old Fish House Fellowship, which adopted the name "Xenos Christian Fellowship" in 1982, has now grown into an i
