Teaching Special Kids: On-Line Resources for Teachers
Whether you teach in a special-education program or in a "regular" classroom, you probably encounter special kids facing special challenges. This week, Education World brings you information about on-line resources that can help you better understand and help students with special needs. Editor's note: Be sure to see Education World's LESSON PLANNING story this week. The story, Understanding Kids Who Are Different: Activities for Teaching About Disabilities , provides lessons and activities for teaching students all students about tolerance. Today, almost every classroom includes a number of students who are dealing with a disability either physical, educational, emotional, or a combination of all three. As a teacher, you probably find yourself looking for information and resources that will help you effectively teach those students and help them learn successfully. However, the number of special-education Web sites for teachers can be overwhelming so overwhelming that it's hard to sort through them all.

Lower Elementary Science, Social and Cultural Curriculum
The TMS science, social and cultural curriculum is the backbone of our lower elementary classrooms. Basic skills in literacy and numeracy are taught in order to make the works of culture available to the child. The integrated curriculum explores history, geography, science, anthropology, commerce, literature, the arts, and music. Children learn through the exploration of key timelines and classification charts, impressionistic lessons and experiments. They are encouraged to research subjects of particular interest to themselves. There is no limit to the range of projects that can be undertaken, and each child works to her own personal best level of ability. History i n Geography Science experiments help the child to understand the laws of the Universe. Lower elementary students study:

The Story of God and His People
CSI's Bible curriculum presents the story of God and His people in chronological order and teaches the events in context, so students understand more fully what it means to be part of God's family. Preschool through Grade 2 The revised curriculum for preschool-grade 2 uses the Bible story told by the teacher as the central element. Multisensory followup activities encourage students to remember and retell the stories. God's Family(Preschool).

Dr. Seuss Preschool
Seuss-style adventure combines fun and learning but targets wrong crowd! Throw in 50 Dr. Seuss characters, add some interactive learning games and stories, and "oh, the places you'll go" on this CD-ROM. Horton the Elephant needs your child's help to find a lost baby animal named Elma Sue. In order to rescue the baby animal, children can explore the Main Jungle screen and click on either the Jungle sign or the Pool sign. They'll find a bunch of challenging learning activities with the Main Jungle screen and throughout the software. Unfortunately, the software is aimed at children ages 2-4 .It should be geared towards 4 to 6 year-olds. Too bad this CD-ROM is called Dr. Seuss Preschool. How many preschoolers do you know who are two years old? Forget the title and forget the age range. Your kindergarten or 1st grader will love this software. Aside from the obvious age-range discrepancy, let's focus on this value-priced CD-ROM's truly entertaining contents. The activities (a whopping 250 "lessons")are multi-level and very challenging , even at the easiest difficulty level. The software installed easily and ran flawlessly on the Apple iMac.
