Use the dedicated subject directories listed here as follow-ups. (or more accurately: Tercentenary or Tercentennial)
    WHAT'S HAPPENING:
This website is designed for the American Tricentennial (1776-2076) celebration and other major events occurring during the year 2076. In leading up to the various celebrations, you will find this site provides historical links to events past that will be remembered (like time capsules) during the Tricentennial festivities. Also, there are other significant events like the 75th American Presidential election, the Olympics celebrating 2852 years (776BC-2076AD), and the playing of the 110th National Football League's Super Bowl this year. This site was launched January 2000 to be a mini-time capsule and calendar of events for 2076. Obviously, starting 76 years in advance, it will be a little difficult to give you the exact date/time/place for some events. But, as the Tricentennial year and celebrations grow closer and more specific information is released, we will publish it here.

Introduction: Article II, section 1, of the Constitution provides that "[the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold this Office during the Term of four Years, ...together with the Vice President, chosen for the same term..." In addition to the powers set forth in the Constitution, the statutes have conferred upon the President specific authority and responsibility covering a wide range of matters (United States Code Index). The President is the administrative head of the executive branch of the Government, which includes numerous agencies, both temporary and permanent, as well as the 14 executive departments. George Washington's first inauguration took place at Federal Hall in New York City, where the first Congress was assembled. Keenly aware of the momentousness of the occasion, Washington accepted the Presidency and spoke of his determination to make the American experiment a success. The following material was condensed and edited from the White House Homepage Web sitewith added content to further inform visitors to the Federal Gateway site.
