Students and interested laypersons are invited to read the Newsletter on the WorldWideWeb, or by subscribing to LPN-L (see information below), or at a library. The Newsletter
  • provides information on care and breeding of nonhuman primates for laboratory research,
  • disseminates general information and news about the world of primate research (such as announcements of meetings, research projects, sources of information, nomenclature changes),
  • helps meet the special research needs of individual investigators by publishing requests for research material or for information related to specific research problems, and

    • P. badius, Senegal to Ghana;
    • P. pennantii, southeastern Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, Bioko (Fernando Poo);
    • P. rufomitratus, northern and eastern Zaire, Uganda, mouth of Tana River in eastern Kenya, western Tanzania;
    • P. gordonorum, Uzungwa Mountains in south-central Tanzania;
    • P. kirkii, Zanzibar.
    There is considerable disagreement regarding the taxonomy of red colobus monkeys both at the generic and at the specific level. Some authorities, including Dandelot ( in Meester and Setzer 1977) and Honacki, Kinman, and Koeppl 1982), consider Piliocolobus to be a subgenus of Colobus. Others, including Brandon-Jones Lee, Thornback, and Bennett
