History Program History has been defined as the "memory of human group experience" because it brings the student into contact with the whole range of human effort and achievement. Its object is to recreate the past from the evidence left to us, and to try to explain how and why human beings spoke, acted, and thought as they did in the past. Although history must always deal with the "facts" of societies, it is even more concerned with explaining and illuminating them. The program is centred broadly on the history of "Atlantic Civilization" the historical development of Europe and the Americas. The courses aim to provide both a broad exposure to the history of the Atlantic World, and more specialized work in the history of various regions and countries.

INTRODUCTION The Certified General Accountants Association of Prince Edward Island is an organization of professional accountants incorporated under the Certified General Accountants Act of 1968. The Association represents 150 CGAs and students in the Province and is directly affiliated with over 60,500 CGAs and students throughout Canada and internationally. CGAs make up about one quarter of the population of professional accountants in Canada and have been recognized as having the most up-to-date accounting education program in the world. CGAs integrated computer technology into the course curriculum in the late 1980s and remain the leaders in that regard. No other professional accounting education program in Canada has such integration available. In its latest innovation, the CGA has blended its ethics education material into the existing core program. The CGA Association in Prince Edward Island, while representing the interests of its membership, is also aware of its professional obligations to the public. Our members provide services in financial management, accounting and business administration not only to employers but to the general public and we take our responsibilities seriously. CGAs in this province are employed in government, industry, commerce, the not-for-profit sector, and public practice.

Marion Island lies at 46°52'34" South 37°51'32" East in the Southern Indian Ocean. Prince Edward Island from the north coast of Marion Island (Photograph courtesy of Graham Clarke) Marion Island is 19 km long by 12 km wide, and the two islands have a combined area of 316 square km and politically form part of South Africa's Cape of Good Hope Province . The islands are volcanic in origin, with Marion having many hillocks (secondary craters) and small lakes. Prince Edward Island has spectacular cliffs up to 490m high on its south western side. The volcanic interior mountains of Marion Island
(Photograph courtesy of Frank Sokolic) Marion is the higher of the two islands, and State President Peak , it's highest point at 1,230m, is permanently covered in snow and ice. It is surrounded by a large number of secondary craters, betraying its volcanic origin. There is little vegetation, except for lichen, in the island's centre. Elsewhere the vegetation is mainly mosses and ferns, and the terrain is very boggy. This is due to the abundant snow and rain. There are no trees, due to the persistent, strong westerly winds commonly termed the Roaring Forties Sunshine is rare, and the temperature falls below freezing in winter. In short, it is ideal for a weather station, though not its inhabitants. Most of the photographs on this page were taken during rare periods of fine weather, which should not be taken to be the norm.

PEI Overview
Location
Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest province in both area and population. The island lies in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, separated from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick by the Northumberland Strait. This Maritime province is 224 kilometres long and has a width that ranges from 6 to 64 kilometres and has a total area 5,660 square kilometres.
History
Prince Edward Island was originally called "Abegweit" by the Micmac Indians, who lived there for over 2,000 years before the arrival of the Europeans. It was discovered by Jacques Cartier in 1534, who described it as "the most beautiful stretch of land imaginable," though it was a long time before Prince Edward Island was settled. The French established a permanent colony in 1719. The British later took control of the island and renamed it in honour of Prince Edward of England. Prince Edward Island is known as the "cradle of Confederation" since it hosted the 1864 Charlottetown Conference that set Canadian Confederation in motion. The island, surprisingly, did not join the Dominion of Canada until 1873.
