International New Media Festival -
Banff Television Foundation Comes on Board (Banff, Alberta, Canada, February 6, 2003) The Banff Television Foundation, the Atlantic Digital Media Festival Society and Technology PEI announced today a new deal with regard to the annual International New Media Festival (INMF) held in Brudenell, PEI. Under the terms of the deal the Banff Television Foundation becomes the FestivalÌs owner, organizer, manager and producer; Technology PEI retains its role as the lead sponsor with a strong five year commitment to the Festival; and the Atlantic Digital Media Society relinquishes its role with the event. The Festival will continue to operate in Prince Edward Island with the seventh edition taking place in October 2003. "This is a very exciting acquisition for the Foundation," said Pat Ferns, president and CEO of the Banff Television Foundation. "We have had a long association with the INMF through CyberPitch and professional development exchanges so we already feel that we are family. Our COO, Jim Byrd, has been instrumental in putting this deal together. The enthusiasm of Technology PEI gives us great confidence that we can build a world-class brand for this leading edge event."

Capital City:
Charlottetown
Canadian history is alive and celebrated in Charlottetown. The 1864 Charlottetown Conference was the first meeting that eventually led to the proclamation of the Dominion of Canada in 1867. Because of this meeting, the City of Charlottetown is now known as the "Birthplace of Confederation". PEI is just 280 kilometres long so it's quite possible to explore every nook and cranny. Rich soil and a temperate climate make Prince Edward Island an ideal place for mixed farming.
Half of its land is under cultivation, earning it the nickname, "the Garden Province". It is renowned for its red soil, sand dunes and 800 kilometres of beaches.
In 1991, the population of Prince Edward Island was 130,000. Charlottetown, with a population of 33,000, is the Island's only urban centre. Prince Edward Island's population is quite young - about 38 per cent of the people are under 25.
On May 31, 1997, Prince Edward Island celebrated the official opening of the Confederation Bridge. The 12.9-kilometre bridge spans the Northumberland Strait and offers easy access from the mainland to the Island beyond ferries and air travel.

Memory is therefore a key to responsible action....Romanticism is a fantasized version of the past. Unpleasant events and personal or national failures are erased, while comforts and successes are exaggerated. Or wrongs may be exaggerated and comforts and successes erased. On either side romanticism is intended to energize false hopes. In its most exaggerated form it denies the relevance of memory and constructs free-standing abstract ideologies. - John Ralston Saul what's new at this archive, the last modification having been made on 27 November, 2001 (always check what's new first!!), or go to the top of the archive

It also housed the Island's Supreme Court until 1872. Province House retains its central role in Island public life, with the Assembly holding sessions here. In September 1864, Province House was the scene of the first conference on colonial union. Delegates from the colonies of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Canada met in the legislative council chamber, now the Confederation Chamber, to begin discussions which led to confederation in 1867. Prince Edward Island
    September 6-12, 2003
September, our favorite month for cycling, is the ideal time to stretch your legs across a fabled storybook island. We meet in Charlottetown to experience tandeming during the island's finest interlude: the week that separates the departure of tourists from the arrival of fall. After an intro ride we attend the season's last performance of Anne of Green Gables . During the balance of a magical tour we explore an island that is, amazingly, more charming than the story itself. Friendly people, quiet roads, enticing seafood, gently rolling landscapes, lively festivals, shining waters, quaint villages, vivid colors and compelling history add flavor to a superb collection of rides, meals, inns and attractions. If 2003 is your year for an extra week of vacation, our couples-only tour of P.E.I. is a special reward for your fitness, togetherness and accomplishment.
