The summit's web site I. ACA's Commitment Description
The American Camping Association is a private, nonprofit, educational association committed to enriching the lives of children and adults through safe and healthy summer camp experiences. Since 1910, ACA has been accrediting summer camps and educating camp directors to provide dynamic experiences that contribute to the successful development of children and youth. Self-esteem, responsibility, cooperation, and courage are the needs met at today's summer camps.
Because of our belief that camp gives kids a world of good, ACA commits to increasing the number of children who have a camp experience by 15%, which is an additional 810,000 campers nationwide.
II. Commitment Plan
To accomplish this goal, ACA commits to:
  • raising the public's awareness of the values and benefits unique to camp experiences; partnering with parents in providing tools designed to help them choose safe and fun summer camps that complement their own parenting philosophies; encouraging ACA-accredited private and independent camps to increase their scholarships by 50% to provide more opportunities for low-income campers;

To Camp or Not To Camp!
by Peggy Kord
It’s time to think SUMMER! Consider a camp experience for your gifted child. There are opportunities for gifted children in traditional, recreational, and athletic camps and there are academic and 'open challenge' camps with specific programs for gifted children. The most important factor when choosing a type of camp is to know what your child wants. Is she looking for a particular academic challenge or is she looking for self-expression through the arts? Perhaps he wants to “escape” giftedness and experience a traditional camp. Discuss camp options with your child!
Now what? There are eight steps to consider when choosing a camp for your child.

This program is designed for athletes who wish to sell tickets for our annual fundraiser Auction/Raffle. 75% of all the money they raise goes into their Far West Bucks "account." These credits may be used for any Far West sponsored trip (such as JO's) or camp. This is a great way for athletes to help out their families by defraying much of the cost of these activities. Far West Bucks are good for the year following the Auction, and can be used up to the period of Junior Olympics the following year. After JO's, those credits expire.
