Kids Can Attend College This Summer at New Arizona Youth University!
This summer, school-aged children can "attend" the University of Arizona by
participating in camps and classes at the new Arizona Youth University (AYU).
Sponsored by UA Extended University, and in cooperation with several other
departments on the UA campus, AYU features programs for students in grades 1-12
focusing on subjects from Fencing to Physics.
Since many of the classes and camps will take place on the UA campus, AYU programs
will have the opportunity to introduce students to the excitement, energy, and focused
learning that is typical in a college setting. Building on the success of Extended provides enrichment opportunities for children that will deepen their appreciation and understanding of various subject areas.

She speaks into the voice-activated microphone strapped to her head and expertly persuades the women to get up, get focused and get their butts down the piste. No easy task. Most are obviously intimidated by the powder-and-icy-bump mix, but Savijarvi convinces them to confront their fears. One-by-one, they all ski the face and conquer some of the toughest terrain Sun Peaks can muster. Where the Girls Are
"I remember when I first got started teaching skiing," says Stephanie Sloan, former World Freestyle Skiing Champion, now head of Whistler/Blackcomb’s Women Only Ski Program. "I was leading bump clinics, and a lot of men were coming out but not many women. I kept saying, ‘Where are all the girls?’ It turned out, they weren’t coming out because they thought they’d slow the guys down." Sloan put together one of the first all-women programs, and immediately "the girls" signed up. With all-women teachers in all-women groups, Sloan’s clients started feeling less intimidated. Sloan’s colleague and former competitor on the world freestyle circuit, Lauralee Bowie, agrees. "I’ve thought a lot about why women take my camps," she says, "and it comes down to one factor: intimidation. Women like my camps because they’re not intimidating."

Here you will find articles from your peers. We welcome your contributions. Please send your articles to articles@CampDepot.com . We reserve the right to edit or reject any submission. Recommending After-School Programs and Camps for Your Students as A Teacher
Getting to know your pupils and suggesting camp and after-school programs can be very beneficial for you as a teacher. These programs will allow you to help your students to achieve ever-higher standards and, at the same time, allow your students to learn about themselves and become motivated learners. These after-school program and camp experiences will help your students to succeed in your classroom and the rest of their lives.
When recommending any supplemental programs for a student, you must leave the control with the parents. Both you and they know it is your job to teach their child. In order to help the parents to understand that you accept and welcome that responsibility, make it clear first that you are concerned for their child and his/her long-range success just as they are. Then it is their choice whether or not to avail themselves of your recommendation.
