Revised May 25th, 2002.
The pages stored on "TalkCity.com", "MSN.com", "EFN.org" and "50megs.com" are mostly obsolete. At one point in August 1999, travelling around in my car I stopped off at different public libraries and used their public access computers. With a combination of online internet tutorials, and reading computer manuals on the library premises, I taught myself rudimentary "HTML" programming language. At least I learned enough to make simple text pages to publish on the web. I found several webhosts which would give me free homepage space, but mostly they stick ads on every page so that it looks like I am raking in money from online casinos and suchandomly chosen advertisements. Actually I have never made one penny from internet webpages I publish. Although I still think I performed an excellent body of writing, strategizing and research, my writing never did find an audience. I have since learned that there are practically none whom have closely similar beliefs. Naturally, if you looked at my older writings you will see that it is a large fall from my initial optimism over 3 years. Today in 2002 I am just looking for cheap land to rent to do a suitable demonstration project of Ecological Synergy.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORY OF THE SEFTON COAST
Early settlement would have occurred in an environment very different to today's landscape. It is likely that what dunes did exist formed barriers with lagoons behind them. The coast throughout Mesolithic, Neolithic, bronze age and iron age times was constantly changing with probably at least four transgressions and retreats of the coast. This article looks at more recent history and on the landscape that we see today. How did it form, how has it changed and how have we changed it. There have probably been two major periods of dune building on the Sefton Coast. In the Netherlands old dunes and new dunes have been identified. The older dunes were formed prior to Roman times and subsequently were much eroded. On the Sefton Coast the present dune system probably began to form about 800-900AD in a period of rising sea-levels. High, actively mobile dune systems are often a reflection of erosion pushing the sand into high mounds.

If you would like to receive LEUCNET NEWS by post please send your mailing details to Max Shelton or Alan Pottinger Click here to return to the LEUCNET NEWS HOME PAGE Inside this issue Editor's note by Max Shelton This is a large issue of LEUCNET News. But it shows the continuing interest in the genus by groups from all over the world. We thank you for your contributions and we know that you will enjoy reading the many interesting articles in this issue. We have a special event to announce for February 1998. It is a Leucaena Workshop to be held in Hanoi, North Vietnam and hosted by Prof. Le Van Khoa from Vietnam National University. Full details are given in Meetings and Publications. It will be an excellent meeting with presentations from all round the world. Topics to be reviewed and updated include systematics of the genus, productivity and adaptation of lesser-known leucaenas, wood and forage quality, and new developments in on-farm research and extension. We have several articles in our special feature on growing leucaena on acid soils. Early results show that there appears to be no significant acid soil tolerance emerging from the LEUCNET trials. But peruse the articles and make up your own minds as to whether we are yet able to make conclusions.
