A Meditation on Mystical Union
This web site gives the present results of my meditations and analyses of a five-year religious crisis. That crisis began with a tragedy in my life in December 1957 when I was 25 years old and culminated in the experience of mystical union in early April 1962. "Dive deep, Oh my mind: Dive Deep."
Table of Contents:
  • Introduction.
  • An Engineer's Story: A narrative of a 21-month period leading up to, and including, the attainment of mystical union.
  • The Dark Night of the Soul or Purgation: a detailed account of the 10-hour experience that just preceded mystical union.
  • Mystical Union: a detailed account of the 4 to 7 second experience of mystical union.
  • The Return: my religious journey after mystical union. ...
  • Transcendental Feedback Phenomenology (TFP): A discourse on my formalized method for analyzing consciousness during a traumatic experience.
  • Applying TFP: The analysis of consciousness during the Dark Night of the Soul or Purgation until that traumatic experience is carefully described and its essences are revealed.
  • Toward the Meaning of the Experience: Clarifying the nature of God, the essence of faith, and the meaning of life.
  • 43. God Wars
general, critical overview of religion and religions worldwide.
    http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Rhodes/3991/GodWars.html
GodWars: The Battle for Humanity's Soul Hundreds of religions and philosophies are currently engaged in the centuries-old conflict over the hearts and minds of the human species. Some religions seek to destroy all the others; some are content with control over one group, becoming identified with ethnicity or nationality. No matter whether you think of religion as mankind's greatest characteristic or a form of self-propagating mind virus, you cannot avoid being affected by the God Wars.
In these wars, religions that spew propaganda almost always beat those that do not. Religions whose missionaries circle like vultures waiting for disasters to occur in unconverted nations have constant success. International religions have an advantage, even if numbers are small, because they can recover from persecution in any single country.
As you may guess, I do not buy into the liberal P.C. garbage that "all religions are paths to the same Truth". No they are not. Some religions don't even have gods. Some, like Biblical Christianity and the Aztec blood cult, have evil gods that cannot be honestly reconciled with ideals such as freedom and "human rights", let alone "love". We do NOT all worship the same God. And this is a good thing.
If all Humanity had the same religion, even a peaceful mystical one, we would lose most of our creativity and the capacity for moral debate. A world dominated by the repressive "monotheistic" religions is unthinkable. Yet it may happen, as Christian and Muslim compete for power in Africa and around the world. What will be the

    FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
ESR offers annual full-tuition scholarships, with preference given to qualified Quaker students who demonstrate strong leadership and ministry potential. Through the Cooper Scholar program up to two years of tuition may be received, after which students may apply for need-based aid. In addition, ESR offers grant assistance to students on the basis of financial need. Except in cases of exceptional need, grants are generally limited to a percent of tuition charges. Priority for grants is given to students with dependents, with heavy loan burdens from undergraduate or other graduate schools, and/or students who do not have a source of significant income or other resources. Students in degree programs who take nine semester hours per semester may apply for a Federal Stafford Loan. We ask that students carefully consider their ability to repay loans before applying for a loan. Students must apply for a grant at ESR before the loan can be processed. Stafford funds can be used for living expenses after tuition charges are paid. Repayment on Stafford Loans generally begins six months after the student graduates, withdraws, or drops below six semester hours per semester. Federal Perkins Loans are also available to students with exceptional need. Perkins Loans are repayable after graduation or withdrawal. ESR offers a few part-time, minimum-wage clerical and reception desk positions. ESR also maintains information to help students apply for grants from private sources.

Developments in the International Association for the Psychology of Religion
Unfortunately, although people like André Godin, Antoine Vergote and especially Hjalmar Sundén published some articles in the Archiv, the Association after some years ended in a cul-de-sac again. There were only a few professional psychologists involved, most attendees of the conferences had limited training in psychology during their pre-war education as theologians. No efforts were made to broaden up, to professionalize or to modernize the Association's perspective or style. However, Nils Holm, a historian and psychologist of religion from Finland, who was chosen as its new President in 1995, managed to persuade the 'old' majority within the Board to take in some new persons at a conference he organized in Denmark, 1998. Together with the small number of psychologists of religion on the Board already, these new members are committed to a reorganization of this Europe-based Association, in order to turn it into a scholarly, democratic, and confessionally as well as religiously neutral international platform for the psychology of religion. At the international conference, held in The Netherlands (September 28-30, 2001) a new board was elected and a new constitution and by-laws decided upon.

The tradition of painting history continued even after the Spanish Conquest, as the Spaniards accepted the pictorial histories as valid records of the past. Five Pre-Columbian and some 150 early colonial painted histories survive today.

    Magic Bibliographies and Resources

These bibliographies so far contain only a few works which I have consulted for my PhD research into ancient Greek perceptions of magic. The content inevitably reflects my interests (particularly archaic and classical Greek literary sources). A comprehensive bibliography of magic (even ancient magic) would in any case be prohibitive. Feel free to suggest additions, etc. Please let me know if you find this of any use. In case you have found this page while looking for something else, I have included links to other online magic resources. You are visitor number to my site since its conception in 1996. This whole site will soon be restructured to make it simpler, more attractive and hopefully more useful (and so it will involve less work to keep it updated). The current change of face of this page is the first step. The bibliographies are currently still in their unwieldy form, as listed below. There is a Text-Only Version of the full bibliography in a single document; this is more up-to-date than any of the subdivided bibliographies. The following sub-sections, divided into topics for for convenience, remain accessible but are no longer updated pending the restructure of the site (which will happen when I have more time):
