Winthrop School Psychology alumni are employed in many states. Their preparation is evaluated very highly by employers. Those who have pursued doctoral studies have also been very successful in gaining admission and in completing their studies.

4. Graduate Study In Psychology: General Advice To Help You Get In
Graduate Study in psychology general Advice. Is graduate school really for you?
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/5353/classes/gradschool.html
Graduate Study in Psychology
General Advice
  • Is graduate school really for you? This is the most important question to ask yourself as you are thinking about applying. Graduate school is a time-consuming and expensive commitment. Make sure you talk to a lot of people and do a lot of internet research so that you know what you're getting into before you decide to apply. Graduate school can be extremely rewarding, but only if you are passionately interested in whatever it is that you are interested in studying.
  • Are there any absolute rules that you can follow to ensure that you are admitted? No. No matter what your qualifications are, it is impossible to predict with absolute certainty whether you will be admitted to certain programs or not. Obviously, better students will get more acceptance letters than poor students, but factors outside of your control are going to play a big part in where you are admitted. So keep in mind that the rest of the advice on this page includes general guidelinesthere are no guarantees.
  • What are the most important strengths that an applicant can have?

Key Information from the School Psychology Review
The School Psychology Review is a refereed journal published quarterly by the National Association of School Psychologists. The primary purpose of the School Psychology Review is to impact the delivery of school psychological services by publishing scholarly advances in research, training, and practice. School Psychology Review seeks original research, reviews of theoretical and applied topics, case studies, and descriptions of intervention techniques useful to psychologists working in educational settings. Portions of two or three issues each year are reserved for mini-series on themes deemed by the Editorial Advisory Board to be of major interest to practitioners of school psychology. The majority of journal space, however, is open for unsolicited manuscripts covering a wide range of topics. All manuscripts submitted for review are subject to a masked, peer-review process involving members of the Editorial Advisory Board and ad hoc reviewers.

    13. General Recommendations, School Psychology Program, CSP, SDSU
general Recommendations for the school psychology Program offered in the Departmentof Counseling and school psychology atat San Diego State University.
    http://edweb.sdsu.edu/csp/main/programs/sp_supplemental/courses/recommend.html
GENERAL PROGRAM RECOMMENDATIONS Engage in Research Activities Throughout the Program Students are strongly encouraged to develop their research skills over the full extent of their program by enrolling for CSP 798 Special Studies with school psychology faculty members. Occasionally, the formation of research groups may be announced to pursue specific research projects (CSP 798 credit awarded). Develop Computer Skills: Word Processing Many of the core courses in school psychology require revisions of papers or reports. The revisions requirement becomes more intense in each phase of the program. These revisions are necessary because they are part of the process of learning, of building on the skills you have, expanding them to the next level of proficiency. You will find word processing skills to be indispensable. Many members of the faculty use Microsoft Word (for MAC or IBM), and we encourage you to adopt this word processing program as it facilitates collaboration. Instead of submitting a paper copy of a report, for example, you may submit a floppy file on which the faculty may provide written supervision or annotations. You need to be fluent and proficient with word processing in order to be efficient as a student or school psychologist (see also section VII-B) Develop Computer Skills: Data Processing If you are not proficient with data processing (i.e., statistical packages), it is recommended that you enroll in Social Science 201: Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) (one unit). If you have not had a course in statistics as an undergraduate, wait until you take ED 690 to take the SPSS course. The course should be taken early in your studies. (see also section VII-B).
