We are about to play, for the first time in our history, the 1/8 final of a world cup. There is no second chance. This is a one-way game, but Senegalese fans are so confident. After the 31 May 2002 game, the 16 June 2002 is likely to be another historical day for Senegal’s football.
Senegalese fans are a bit nervous about the Senegal-Sweden game. Not because they do not think that our team is not able to win that game, but only because Salif Diao and Fadiga suspension. After the first round games, all the fans thought that these suspensions were abusive and that it was FIFA who was trying to get rid of the intruders in this world cup 2002 by any means.
I can tell you that the polemic in here has been so intense.
Anyway, we have had, once again, a really crazy game! On Saturday night, we invited two salsa bands and enjoyed barbecued meat, drinks, and music until the morning. It was fantastic! We all waited all night long for the Sunday early game between Senegal and Sweden.
The Senegal performance against Sweden (2-1) is just amazingly gratifying! We Deserved It!!! Our lions were excellent! We had a party all the daylong! Never I have had so much joy! We all cried when Henry Camara scored for the second time.

I will follow the World Cup : "on TV, radio and internet" Nation and president proud - 14 June 2002
South African soccer fans were dismayed at the narrow defeat of Bafana Bafana by one of the World Cup favourites Spain.
Both sides played an open game and players in both teams showed respect for their opponents. But it was Spain who clobbered South Africa 3-0. Though the game ended 3-2. However, had Slovenia played a better game against Paraguay, South Africa would have gone through to the quarter-finals.
The nation is now preparing for the next World Cup in 2006. Many of the present players are still young and in their early 20s. They would be around the second time around. This was not a bad performance by South Africa, bearing in mind that this was only their second World Cup involvement.
In Cape Town hundreds of fans took to pubs and watched the game played on Wednesday. In Johannesburg 1000s more watched the game on a big screen in the city, where they responded to every moment of the game.
In prisons all over the country, even hardcore prisoners gathered to witness their nation play on the world stage.

Africa, recognized as the cradle of humanity, is one of the most culturally and environmentally diverse places on the planet; yet it remains largely unknown to people outside its borders. Contemporary Africa boasts rural societies steeped in ancient beliefs, alongside vibrant multicultural urban centers. Whether you are examining the arts, cultural studies, politics, economics, social change, development, or the natural environment, Africa is an ideal setting in which to broaden your intercultural understanding. SIT Study Abroad offers you the opportunity to gain international and local perspectives as you interact with members of urban and rural communities throughout Africa. Your experiences with individuals, families, organizations, and educational institutions immerse you in diverse points of view concerning critical issues facing Africa today, such as public health education in Uganda, the changing role of women in Mali, the evolution of Pan-Africanism in Ghana, or habitat management in Botswana.
