The course is split into a variety of modules, and each is a full introductory course in its own right. A certificate is awarded for each module successfully completed, and is graded Pass / Credit / Distinction, as appropriate. We are currently offering the following subjects ; Surface Patterning Garment Construction (Craft) An introduction to dressmaking - learning how to make your own clothes. Understanding the use of a sewing machine, sewing, cutting and pressing techniques. Pattern Construction Learn how to make your own individual dressmaking patterns. Fashion Design General Textile Technology A general look at textiles, examining where they come from, how they are made, and their suitability for a variety of uses. This course includes a visit to Styal, Cheshire to see a historical working cotton mill and textile exhibition. Full time students may study all of these subjects simultaneously if appropriate. Part time students may choose which subjects they are interested in, and attend on the day(s) timetabled.

    Interior Design 30
    (Pre-requisite - none) This is a basic interior design course. The following topics are covered: elements and principles of design (including color), selection of suitable materials for floor, wall, and window treatments, furniture styles, furniture arrangement and lighting. Other units include the study of accessories, doors, appliances and fireplaces. Part of the course is the practical application of the theory presented. Students select (or design) a floor plan and “decorate” the following rooms from that plan: kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom.
    Housing 30 (Pre-requisite - none) This course examines various housing issues. Units studied will include: housing values and needs, historical influences on housing architectural styles, forms of housing, renting vs. buying, financing a housing purchase, house styles, floor plans, kitchen and room planning, and choosing a location. Other units include the study of residential landscaping, energy efficient housing and careers in the housing industry.
