Picture Yourself . . . At the Olympic Games... the crowd roars as you bend down to receive your medal... you see your friends and family in the crowd... the Star-Spangled Banner begins to play...you heart pounds... YOU DID IT! This is not just anyone's dream: it's yours! And you CAN make it happen! It will take perseverance, dedication, and many hours of training to get there, but the road to your Olympic dream begins now. 1996 United States Gold Medal Winner Kim Rhode, Silver Medal Winner Josh Lakatos and Bronze Medal Winner Lance Bade.,p> You've already taken the first step. You are part of a shooting program. Through that program you will learn gun safety, good citizenship, shooting techniques, the mechanics of firearms, and the various shooting sports. Programs like the one you are a part of give you the first opportunity to hone your marksmanship skills. The next step is to begin shooting in competitions. Not only will competing help you advance in the shooting sports, but they will help you build mental strength. It has been said that competitive shooting is 90% mental. Once you have the mechanical skills necessary, your performance depends on your ability to stay mentally focused and to perform under pressure. The winners of state Junior Olympic matches who shoot a qualifying score are invited to compete in USA Shooting's National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships held once a year at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The top finishers become members of the national development team and have the opportunity to compete at the national and international level.

STADIUM AUSTRALIA OPENS IN SPECTACULAR STYLE The jewel of Sydney’s Olympic crown, Stadium Australia, was officially opened on Saturday evening, 12 June, providing a tantalising taste of things to come for Sydney 2000. The 89,000 people who filed into the breathtaking structure on the chilly winter evening to watch the Australian Socceroos play the World Stars was the largest crowd ever to gather for a soccer match in Australia. The majestic stadium played host to the A$2.5 million opening extravaganza, headlined by the return of legendary Australian band INXS, led by guest frontman Terence Trent D’Arby. Men at Work, recently re-formed for a national tour, ended their 20-minute set with Australia’s unofficial anthem, Down Under. Dancers and musicians littered the field, while dozens of school children wielding miniature light sabres frolicked front stage during the performances. Fireworks completed the night’s festivities, a prelude to Australian artist Wendy Matthews’ national anthem and the kickoff of the Australian Socceroos’ 3-2 victory against the World Stars.

Olympic Village Shooting Center Tennis Center Velodrome Links Just for Kids Legacy Projects: Shooting Center To design a new shooting center for the San Francisco Bay Area, one that would provide a lasting legacy and also meet the requirements for the Olympic Games in 2012, BASOC assembled a team of highly experienced experts who have worked at previous Olympic Games and many other major shooting competitions. The resulting venue can meet the needs of the Olympic Games or a world championship and serve the local community for training and recreation. The San Jose Shooting Center will be established on a site with existing ranges at the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Shooting Facilities, just south of the city. The Finals Hall will extend from the 50m Range and provide seating for 2,500, while the Finals Range for Skeet and Trap will provide seating for 5,000. Additional seating is available at each of the other ranges, all designed to provide the best conditions for athletes and spectators. Space for all the necessary technical facilities, meeting rooms and offices is provided, with a club house/restaurant area designated for future development to serve as the Olympic Family Lounge.

Photographing Olympic Sports
In fact, one of the joys (and frustrations for us old-timers) on a slope is to watch a wolf pack of fearless four-year-olds schuss by and spray snow in our faces.
What about the bobsledding? We doubt that you see much of it around your home town. So we don't cover it in this article. The same with luge. In fact, we've come to the conclusion that the luge is probably the silliest sport ever devised: Grown men and now women going 90 mph feet-first on a sled. Come on!
One tidbit about the luge, however, that raises it somewhat in our estimation: In 1905, when Einstein postulated his Special Theory of Relativity in which he performed a "mind experiment" imagining what would happen if he could ride on a beam of light (that is, travel at a speed of nearly 670 million mph) the fastest speed attained by man on earth up to that time was a little over 90 mph, and it was on a luge!
In any event, let's concentrate on how to photograph the winter sports you're more likely to find in your home area.
The first question with most winter sports is this How should you handle your camera to minimize the effect of freezing cold on its operation? We have devoted an entire article to
