It opened with oral comp. day possible to give the speeches, the people left to signup for is one of the most annoying words in the English language, I think.

June 7, 1999 Oral Comp. Wrap-Up I must have been very adept at guessing the cause for my tiredness or something because my period started today. With it came stomach aches and lowered appetite. I feel like I have the flu. There's a sleepiness I feel that is just so sickly it's disgusting. Strangely enough, though, I seem to need less sleep to function. Then again, that might just be the added stress of finals week at school. Today was the tamest day in my three day span of finals. It opened with oral comp. where we had already finished all our tests anyway. All that remained was to hear out the rest of the people who hadn't presented their TIs yet. If anything they were horrible. Being the last day possible to give the speeches, the people left to sign up for them were obviously the slackers who would give up even extra credit to get a few extra days to procrastinate. (Not that I'm any better, I still ended up preparing the whole thing the morning before it was due.) Each TI had the mandatory three selections and a blanket theme but the links between them were horribly contrived. Some of the selections themselves were beautiful, though. In a TI about angels one person had a piece about an angel whose wings were burned and fell to the earth to see how much had changed, for the worse. It's a shame she failed to interpret it properly, and the rest of the TI didn't do the piece justice. Since everyone's TI was so pathetically shortsix to seven minutes when it's supposed to be nine or tenwe ended up with half an hour at the end to talk. First, though, the teacher had us pass out tests we had taken throughout the semester. The first was one we had taken on The Andromeda Strain. It was an essay test with a lot of annoying questions like "compare the book with the movie" and "how might too much technology be dangerous". (The movie, by the way, is one of the oldest and

The Seattle Police Department recently made national news when they decided to get rid of their Kawasaki police motorcycles and replace them with Milwaukee-made Harley Davidsons. The 1450cc Harley Davidson Police Roadking is specially engineered for police and is not available to the public. In head- to-head tests against the Kawasaki, it beat the Japanese motorcycle in every category. The new bikes have proved to be a great morale booster. Seattle motor officer Jerry Hicklin reports he is in "hog heaven' since the switch. "They're gorgeous aren't they, man,' he says. "I've been waiting 21 years for this!' City officials in Seattle estimate the city will save $40,000 a year by leasing the Harleys rather than buying Kawasakis, which they normally used for three years and then sold.
