Biathlon. The biathlon combines two completely different sports a fast aerobicsport, nordic skiing and the ultimate precision sport rifle shooting.
http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~woolstt/lab5/olympicsports/sports3.html
Ice Skating
There are four different events that take place on the ice: Men's figure skating Women's figure skating, pair's figure skating and ice dancing. The contestents are judged on their performance in the short program which is a combination of required skills and a free skate, which is a program entirely composed by the skater.
Alpine Skiing
There are five events in the alpine skiing category: The downhill ski, during which the skier has one run to complete the course in the shortest amount of time. The Super-G (super giant slalom), which is a combination of the giant slalom and the downhill. The Giant slalom, each skier gets two tries at the longer version of the slalom course. The slalom is the shortest course, requiring the fastest turns. The Combined rounds out the five alpine ski events, it is a combination of one downhill run followed by two slalom runs.
Biathlon
The biathlon combines two completely different sports: a fast aerobic sport, nordic skiing and the ultimate precision sport: rifle shooting. It can be quite challenging to go from sprinting to shooting a target 50 yards away.

Main Page Good/Bad/Ugly But I Digress Stuff of the Month ... Message Board Winter Olympic Sports (Snow) There's nothing quite like a really nasty winter storm that shuts down pretty much everything in the city. There are things that are better, but there's nothing quite like it. It's especially good when everything is shut down before noon and you don't work until 2 pm. What a perfect opportunity to kick back and watch the Olympics. Now, although there are only 14 sports at the winter Olympics, I'm pretty sure that I don't want to rate all of them at one time. So I'm splitting the sports up, going first with snow sports. I'll leave the ice sports and track sports to another article or two. A note here, I'm not rating these sports on difficulty or popularity, I'm going with how they are to watch. If you should happen to compete in any of these sports, and I happen to slam it, well, get over it. Snowboarding : I've never been terribly interested in snowboarding, but when I watched it today, I was impressed with how cool it was to watch. Boarders zipping down the halfpipe and getting some insane air while doing tricks all the while. Plus, it's fast without being overly repetitive. Some of the tricks are very impressive, and it looks like a lot of fun, unlike some other sports. That's a

While the 2002 Winter Olympics were being held in Salt Lake City, Utah, our second graders had many activities in Phy Ed class which were patterned after Olympic events. Students participated in curling, bob sledding, giant slalom skiing, ice hockey, cross country skiing, and mogul skiing. Because they enjoyed their activities, students decided that Winter Olympic sports would be a good topic for their graph. Children and adults in the Milwaukee area were very involved in watching and talking about the Olympics because many of the skaters trained here at the Petit Ice Center. Chris Witty, who won the gold medal for speed skating, and several other famous skaters including Bonnie Blair and Dan Jansen, are from our area. To make their graph, students talked about popular Winter Olympic sports and why people liked them the most. Students nominated and voted for their top five favorite Winter Olympic sports then voted again for their individual favorites out of the five choices. The graph was made using AppleWorks with the matching graphics inserted to create the border. We worked together to create three questions which could be answered by using information on the graph. Have fun answering our questions!

Cross-country athletes Larissa Lazutina (Russia) and Johann Muehlegg (Spain) were stripped on their most recent gold medals after testing positive for darbepoetin. In fact, one of the joys (and frustrations for us old-timers) on a slope is to watch a wolf pack of fearless four-year-olds schuss by and spray snow in our faces.
What about the bobsledding? We doubt that you see much of it around your home town. So we don't cover it in this article. The same with luge. In fact, we've come to the conclusion that the luge is probably the silliest sport ever devised: Grown men and now women going 90 mph feet-first on a sled. Come on!
One tidbit about the luge, however, that raises it somewhat in our estimation: In 1905, when Einstein postulated his Special Theory of Relativity in which he performed a "mind experiment" imagining what would happen if he could ride on a beam of light (that is, travel at a speed of nearly 670 million mph) the fastest speed attained by man on earth up to that time was a little over 90 mph, and it was on a luge!
In any event, let's concentrate on how to photograph the winter sports you're more likely to find in your home area.
The first question with most winter sports is this How should you handle your camera to minimize the effect of freezing cold on its operation? We have devoted an entire article to
