Increasingly, business, industry, and professional associations are requiring their constituents to return to school to maintain a high level of currency in their field. The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a system that documents participation in non-credit courses. In 1968, the National Task Force to Study the Feasibility and Implementation of a Uniform Unit for the Measurement of Non-Credit Continuing Education Programs was established to determine the need for recognizing the efforts of individuals who participate in non-credit activities. Since 1970, when the Task Force issued recommendations, several states have adopted the CEU. These include Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia. The University of South Carolina is one of many individual universities to adopt the CEU to document its non-credit continuing education activities. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is the first regional accrediting agency to require that all member institutions use the CEU to document non-credit special activities. I am a native of Union, South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a master's degree in Higher Education Administration, both from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. My previous professional experiences include work in Judicial and Safety programs and Multicultural Student Affairs. Additionally, I spent a summer at Dartmouth as the first graduate intern for a co-sponsored program between the Office of Residential Life (as the Coordinator of Summer Staff and Programs), and the Amos Tuck School of Business (as the Coordinator of Residential Life for the LEAD Summer Business Institute). I joined the professional staff of the Residential Education office in July of 1998 as the Area Director for West Campus, and Coordinator for Multicultural Education. A large part of my work involves supervision of the professional Community Directors who live in the residence halls, coordination and implementation of the selection and training programs for our live-in student staff (Undergraduate Advisors and Program Liaisons), providing direction for the office's Academic Affinity and Special Interest programs, and working with staff and students to create learning opportunities for our residents. Griffith President - Presbyterian College Dr. John V. Griffith, a 1969 graduate of Dickinson College, begins his fifth year as President of Presbyterian College. Griffith became the 16 th president of PC on Jan. 1, 1998. Griffith was inaugurated on Oct. 10, 1998, as part of Homecoming festivities. Griffith came to PC after spending the last 20 years of service at several colleges in different capacities. He began his work at the college level in 1977, when he was hired as a lecturer at the University of Syracuse.
