National Organizations Program Overview With support from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) of the U.S. Department of Justice , five national organizations and state programs offer an array of law-related education (LRE) programs and activities for young people in their schools and communities. Over 1 million students and 16,000 teachers participate in the Youth for Justice program. LRE helps young people avoid delinquent behavior and develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of effective citizens. Ten Schools With Varying Socioeconomic, Ethnic and Geographic Characteristics Demonstrate Gains On National Math Tests Everyday Mathematics' Results Applauded by AASA and ASCD New York, N.Y., January 29, 2003 Everyday Mathematics have raised the performance of their diverse student bodies. The report, "RESULTS with Everyday Mathematics, " documents how students are better able to learn math when skills, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving processes are developed together. The report is the fourth in a series of RESULTS documents developed by McGraw-Hill Education, a leading global provider of electronic and print learning products. In the report, rural and urban schools across the country using Everyday Mathematics document the improvement in performance and enthusiasm for math demonstrated by their students. Last week, the program was selected by New York City schools in a district wide adoption for Grades K-5. All 10 schools profiled in the report implemented Everyday Mathematics over a period of time and showed improved and sustained student performance. The schools monitored student progress during the school year to ensure effective instruction. Additionally, the schools created an exciting climate to encourage math learning and demonstrated the importance of maintaining high expectations for all students, not just the brightest or most privileged.
